You finish a week and cannot say where it went. Timers tell you when to stop. Time trackers make you categorise everything and are built for billing someone. Neither leaves you with an answer to the simplest question about your own work: what did I actually do? Shiftlog runs a block of work, and when it ends a small window asks one thing: what did you accomplish? You answer in a line. That's the whole mechanic. At the end of the day, the week, or the month, you get the record back: grouped by what you were working on, with your recorded time set against the time between your first block and your last. That second number is usually uncomfortable. It is meant to be. HOW IT WORKS Start a block for however long suits you. Optionally write one line saying what it's for. Work. When the block ends you'll hear a tone and a small window appears with the question. Answer it, skip it, or add a thought that belongs to no block at all. Label blocks with a thread: a project, a client, a part of your life. Use #tags inside entries and click one later to find everything it touched. Search everything you have ever written. WHAT IT WILL TELL YOU Where your hours actually went, by thread. How often you switched, and your longest uninterrupted run. Whether the aims you set are landing. Which threads have gone quiet. What you said you would do and then never mentioned again. All of that is arithmetic over your own record. It needs no account, no connection and no key. If you add an API key from a provider of your choosing, Shiftlog can also write a summary in prose. Your key, your endpoint, your choice of model, including one running on your own computer. Without a key it makes no network requests at all, and the Summarise button copies the record to your clipboard instead so you can paste it wherever you like.
