Shelf — Save articles to files you own
Overview
Read-later that writes Markdown. Optionally exports to Notion, Obsidian, or Logseq. Local-first, no account, no telemetry.
Shelf is a read-later that stops being a graveyard. Every save lands as a Markdown file in a folder you choose — not a row in someone else's database. Optionally, the same save also goes to your Notion workspace, your Obsidian vault, or your Logseq graph. You pick the destinations. You own the files. WHAT YOU GET, FREE - Unlimited saves of articles, videos, and podcasts - Markdown export — frontmatter + body, named after the page title - Export to Notion (paste an integration token, no third-party server) - Export to Obsidian via the obsidian:// URL handler — no plugin needed - Export to Logseq via the logseq:// URL handler — no plugin needed - Up to 2 destinations active at once - Collections, 1-level nesting - YouTube transcripts with clickable timestamps - Pocket and CSV import — bring your archive in - Reading streak, Daily Pick, Inbox Zero — habit nudges without nags WHAT YOU UNLOCK WITH PRO (€4.99/month, €49.99/year) - AI auto-tag — on-device first via Gemini Nano, cloud fallback via Groq - AI summary — three bullets attached to every saved item - Multi-database Notion routing per collection - Smart Rules — auto-tag and auto-collect on save - Collection nesting up to 5 levels deep - Library backup (ZIP and JSON, fully portable) - Bulk operations (filter, tag, delete in one shot) - Unlimited simultaneous destinations FOUNDER LIFETIME The first 200 supporters can pay €99.99 once and keep Pro forever. After that the offer closes for new buyers; existing Founder licenses stay lifetime. WHO IT IS FOR Knowledge workers, researchers, and serious readers who don't want their reading history living in a cloud database that can shut down. Built by one indie maker after Pocket announced its end-of-life. Markdown-first because text outlives apps. WHAT IT DOESN'T DO - No tracking. No account. No telemetry. Period. - No cloud sync of your library — saves live in chrome.storage.local on the device that did the saving. Your Markdown / Notion / Obsidian destinations are the cross-device layer. - No "social" features. Reading is private by design. - No ads. The free tier stays generous because the value is the export, not the lock-in. PRIVACY POLICY Full policy at https://www.shelf-extension.com/privacy. Short version: data stays on your device unless you explicitly export it to a destination you control (Markdown file, Notion page, etc.). AI tagging tries Gemini Nano on-device first; if unavailable, the page text is sent to Groq's hosted API only for users who have explicitly enabled the cloud fallback in Settings → AI Assistant. SUPPORT Documentation: https://www.shelf-extension.com/docs/ Feedback / bug reports: form linked in the popup footer. License: proprietary. Library and exports remain accessible even if the extension is uninstalled — they are files you own.
