Overview

Organize your Google Sheets tabs into collapsible groups (folders) via a floating panel.

Sheet Tab Groups adds folder-style organization to Google Sheets, so spreadsheets with dozens of tabs stop being a scavenger hunt. Google Sheets doesn't let you group your sheet tabs — this extension fixes that with a lightweight floating panel that sits right on top of your spreadsheet. FEATURES • Create named, color-coded groups and sort your sheet tabs into them • Click any sheet inside a group to jump straight to it • Search to find any sheet instantly once your groups start piling up • Reorder groups and the sheets within them with simple, modern controls • 16 preset colors, or open the full color tool for HEX/RGB/HSL input and an eyedropper that can match any color on your screen • Optional Privacy Lock — set a password to hide your groups behind a lock screen until you unlock it (see PRIVACY below for exactly what this does and doesn't protect) • Keyboard shortcut to open and close the panel without reaching for your mouse (customizable in Chrome's shortcut settings) • Works entirely inside your browser — your sheet data is never read, sent, or stored anywhere • Groups are saved per-spreadsheet, so every file keeps its own organization WHO IT'S FOR Anyone with a spreadsheet that outgrew its tab bar — monthly budgets, project trackers, multi-client dashboards, or any sheet where "just scroll through 20 tabs to find the right one" has stopped being funny. HOW IT WORKS Open any Google Sheet and click the floating button that appears in the corner. Create a group, give it a color, and add your sheets to it. Click a sheet name in the group to switch to it instantly — the extension finds and activates the real tab for you. Use search to jump straight to a sheet by name, or the keyboard shortcut to open the panel hands-free. PRIVACY Sheet Tab Groups only reads the names of your sheet tabs to build the group list — it never accesses your spreadsheet's actual data, and nothing is ever sent off your device. All group data is stored locally in your browser via Chrome's storage API. If you turn on the optional Privacy Lock, your group names are encrypted at rest (AES-256, derived from your password) rather than just visually hidden — but this is a privacy screen for this extension's panel only. It does not encrypt or restrict access to your actual Google Sheet, which remains governed entirely by Google's own sharing and permission settings.
