Overview

Reduce distractions, glare, and clutter on the sides of your screen with resizeable, black-out "curtains."

Shades places adjustable dark panels (each, a "shade") along the sides and bottom of your web pages. These shades lay on top of the website's content without modifying, resizing, or rearranging it, thereby obscuring unwanted content partially or completely. This extension: 1. Reduces glare from bright white backgrounds (making it less necessary to use dark mode, enhancing readability, and reducing eye strain); 2. Narrows the apparent width of a page (thereby focusing your reading); 3. Hides clutter from sidebars and ads (simplifying things, so they don't annoy or distract you); 4. Extends battery life on each charge (and saves screen wear) by darkening unused parts of your screen; and 4. Lets you personalize the color and texture of the shades (because you have style!) (it's like a temporary tattoo for your computer). Once you set up your Shades for a webpage, the extension remembers. This way, the customizations you want can come back automatically when you next visit. This extension is ideal for people: A. with vision impairment, for whom glare is an issue; B. with ADHD, who might get distracted by content or ads to the side of the essential content in the middle of the page; C. who prefer dark mode, but who need the enhanced readability of black-on-white text; D. who find clutter stressful; E. who are artistic souls, who need to personalize things and enhance them with colors, textures, and their imagination; and F. who want to watch their YouTube videos, Facebook reels, and similar content in "theater mode" as an aid to concentration.
