Session Vault
Overview
Automatic tab backups saved as plain JSON files in your Downloads folder.
Your browser restores your last session. This is for everything it doesn't keep. Session Vault writes a snapshot of your open tabs to a plain JSON file in your Downloads folder, on a schedule. If your tab manager loses your sessions — or disappears entirely — the files are still sitting there. This is not a tab manager. It is the recovery layer underneath the one you already use. WHAT IT DOES • Saves automatically every 30 minutes, every hour, or every 3 hours — your choice. • Snapshots go to files, never into extension storage. Uninstall this extension and the files remain. • Nothing is ever deleted. If nothing changed since the last snapshot, no new file is written. • Open a snapshot in any text editor and your URLs are right there. No import tool needed. • Restore rebuilds your windows and tabs from a file you pick. • Restores from other extensions' exports too — it looks for URLs, not for a format it recognizes. • A damaged file still gives up every URL it can, and the popup tells you the window layout was lost. A recovery tool that cannot recover is worthless. • Tells you if automatic backup ever stops. Failing silently is the exact problem this exists to prevent. PRIVACY • No account, no server, no sync. The extension makes no network requests at all. • Nothing leaves your machine. Snapshots are written only to your Downloads folder. • Four permissions, about 30 KB. Keep the tab manager you already trust. This one just writes the files.
