I tested it out. It did the job well - including correctly numbering the results for Google's continuous scrolling result pages too, which is good. However, the numbers are too invasive to the SERP layout for my liking. I prefer the numbers not to interfere with the layout. So I switched to the MST SERP Counter Google Chrome extension instead, which inserts the numbers to the left of the item and doesn't mess with the layout (e.g. for taking screenshots etc).
