Overview

Capture any text on screen, even text you cannot select, and read it again on every new tab.

You have 400 screenshots. You have opened four. Every screenshot is a small act of intent that goes nowhere. Second Read fixes both halves of that problem: capturing text that other tools can't reach, and putting it back in front of you afterwards. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CAPTURE ANYTHING, NOT JUST SELECTABLE TEXT Press ⌘⇧K (Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows), drag a box around any text on your screen, and it's saved with its source. Highlighting tools assume you can select the text. Most of what you read all day isn't like that: • slides in a deck • Kindle Cloud Reader pages • screenshots inside tweets and carousels • scanned PDFs • frames of a video • pages behind a paywall Second Read reads the pixels using OCR built into the extension. And when the page does have real text underneath, it uses that instead — instant, and exact. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE IMAGE NEVER LEAVES YOUR COMPUTER Text recognition runs inside your browser, not on a server. The screenshot is cropped, read, and discarded on your own machine. Only the text and where it came from are saved. There is no image upload to inspect, because there is no image upload. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ AND THEN IT COMES BACK Saving was never the hard part. Every tool solves storage; none of them solve the archive nobody opens. Second Read puts one saved passage on your new tab page — the screen you already open dozens of times a day. It picks whatever you've gone longest without seeing, so nothing sits unread forever. Quiet typography, one passage, its source underneath, nothing else. You can switch it off in one click. Optional digests by email or Telegram bring a handful more on a schedule you choose. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ALSO • Works offline — captures save to your device and sync when you reconnect • Edit any capture before or after saving; OCR isn't perfect and you get the final say • Search, tag, and archive everything at secondread.cc • Export everything to Markdown or JSON, any time, without asking us • Free. No paid tier, no account required to start. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ A NOTE ON PERMISSIONS Second Read asks for as little as possible: • Access to the current tab, granted only at the moment you press the shortcut — so it can photograph what you're looking at. It has no standing access to the sites you visit. • Storage, to keep saves on your device so capture works offline and the new tab appears instantly. • New tab page, to show you a saved passage. Toggle it off any time. Privacy policy: https://www.secondread.cc/privacy
