Overview

Slow music down, drop the pitch and add warm cassette character – slowed + reverb for any audio or video in Chrome.

low music down, drop the pitch and get slowed and reverb in one button. Screwify makes any audio or video in your browser sound like a slowed-down record or an old tape: the speed drops and the pitch drops with it. Pick a preset – Slowed, Cassette, Radio, Screwed & Chopped, Background or Dream – and leave it playing in the background. No knobs to set up. It works on any site that plays audio or video – music services, video sites, podcasts, radio – right in the page's own player. Nothing is downloaded or re-encoded. If you do want knobs, they are all there. The sound is set up from the start: 80% speed, a light tape chew, dark tone, occasional radio static and a touch of reverb are already on, at the settings that sound best (marked with hearts in the panel), and the tone drifts gently on its own. You can turn any effect down or off. WHAT IT DOES • One-click presets. Default, Radio, Cassette (lo-fi), Screwed & Chopped, Glitch, Slowed (slowed and reverb), Background and Dream (deep reverb and a high floating tone) set all the knobs at once. Made a sound you like? Save the current settings under your own name – up to 6 of your own presets, free. • Slow and low. Set the speed from 30% to 150%. The pitch follows the speed like on vinyl; the panel shows the shift in semitones (70% is about −6.2). • Reverb. A room around the sound for the slowed + reverb feel. A light 10% by default; more or less is up to you. • Tape chew. The speed wobbles and dips like a chewed-up cassette. You choose how hard. • Dark tone. Rolls off the highs for a muffled, underwater sound. • Drifting tone. Like tape chew, but for the timbre: the tone slowly drifts at random – the sound gets a little duller, then clearer again, like old tape. • Radio static. Like a radio losing its signal: once in a while the sound goes dull, hiss and crackle rise, the music steps back and sometimes turns gritty, like a signal about to drop – and then it all returns. It happens rarely; you choose how much. • Even volume. A soft compressor evens out quiet and loud parts, so a track does not jump between whispers and peaks. Off by default; you can turn it on. • Behind the wall. Muffled sound, like music from the next room or a car outside: no highs, booming bass. Off by default; you choose how thick the wall is. • Vinyl crackle. Rare random clicks and a faint surface hiss of an old record, quiet and at a fixed level. A button next to Noise. Off by default. • Glitch. Rare short stutters like old tape: a split second of sound repeats. The slower the speed, the more noticeable. A button in the row under Reverb and Behind the wall, next to Chops, Even volume, Fast-forward ads and the sleep timer. Off by default. • Bass kept in check. The more you slow down, the more the lowest bass is gently pulled back, so it does not turn into a hum. • DJ stop. Pause winds the record down over a second instead of cutting the sound – from the panel and from the site's own pause button. Play spins it back up. • Chops. A chopped & screwed trick: now and then the start of a bar plays again, like a DJ cutting between two copies of the record, and trails off into an echo. The loop starts on a drum hit, and sometimes it is half as long and repeats two or four times. Needs a track with a steady beat. • And a scratch. You can spin the record in the panel back and forth with the mouse – the sound follows your hand. THE PANEL • Lives in Chrome's side panel – only on the tab where you opened it. Switch to another tab and the panel is out of the way while the music keeps playing slowed; come back and it is right there. • Shows what is playing: site, artist and title, a live waveform and a progress bar with seek. • The record spins at the real playback speed and wears the track's cover art. The same cover faintly shows through at the bottom of the panel, under film grain. • Takes on the look of the site you are on – its colors, accent color and font – so it feels like part of the page. • Always-on-top mini player. A button in the panel header opens a compact player in its own small window: it stays in view while you work in other tabs and apps, and controls the same music tab. • Six languages: English, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French. Follows your browser language by default. SHARE A FIND The Share button copies a link to the page you are on with your settings added to it. When someone with Screwify installed opens the link, the page plays with the same sound settings, from speed to static. Someone without it sees the track title, your settings and an install button. The link preview in a messenger is in your panel's language. GOOD TO KNOW • The effect is turned on per site and remembered: open the site again and it comes back on by itself. • A tab that was open before you installed the extension needs one reload – the panel offers to do it. • Keyboard shortcuts: open the panel, turn the effect on and off, slower, faster. You can change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. • The toolbar icon turns gray on tabs that have no audio or video. • When the effect is off, or the panel is closed, the extension leaves pages alone. • On protected (DRM) streams and on audio served from another server without permission, speed and pitch still work, but the waveform, reverb, dark and drifting tone, static, even volume, behind the wall, vinyl crackle, chops and scratch sound are not available – the browser does not give extensions access to that audio. • Live calls and webcam streams are never touched. PRIVACY Screwify does not collect, store or send any personal data. Your settings stay in your browser. There are no accounts, no analytics and no ads.
