Screen & Sound Recorder is a free screen recorder with audio for Mac and Windows. It records your screen together with your computer's sound (system audio) and your microphone in one MP4, even when you wear headphones. No sign-up, no watermark, no upload. On a Mac, QuickTime Player only records the microphone, so anything you hear through headphones is lost. Screen & Sound Recorder captures the computer's sound directly and mixes it with your voice, on Mac and on Windows. Use it to record Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls, online classes and webinars, tutorials and how-to videos, product demos, presentations and bug reports. WHAT YOU CAN RECORD • Screen mode: the entire screen, a window or a single tab, with computer sound and your microphone. • Camera only mode: a webcam recorder for your camera and microphone, without sharing the screen. With the camera off, it records your voice as an M4A audio file. • A floating camera bubble in Screen mode. Drag it anywhere and resize it. It is part of the video when you share the entire screen. WHILE RECORDING • A 3-second countdown, so you can get ready. • The toolbar icon shows the running time. Click it to pause, resume, mute the microphone or stop. • Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+R (⌥⇧R on Mac) opens the recorder or stops, Alt+Shift+P (⌥⇧P) pauses or resumes. • Computer sound and microphone are mixed into one track, with a limiter so loud moments don't clip. • Quality: 720p, 1080p or Max. WHEN YOU STOP • The recording is saved as an MP4 file (H.264 + AAC) in a folder you name once inside Downloads. Chrome never asks where to save. • The Recordings page opens, so you can watch it right away, open it in your video player, show it in Finder or File Explorer, rename it or delete it. Renaming and deleting change the file too. • Long recordings are stored piece by piece, so they don't fill your memory. If the recorder window is closed by accident, the part recorded so far is kept. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything stays on your computer. No account, no upload, no analytics, no ads. REQUIREMENTS • Chrome 141 or later, on macOS 14.2 or later or on Windows 10 or 11. • Mac: turn on Google Chrome in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, and under Microphone and Camera if you use them. • Windows: no extra permission is needed for the screen. To record computer sound, share the entire screen or a Chrome tab, since a single window can't share its sound on Windows. • To play and rename saved recordings on the Recordings page, turn on "Allow access to file URLs" for the extension. The Recordings page has a button that takes you there. QUESTIONS • Does it record system audio? Yes. In Chrome's picker, choose Entire Screen and turn on "Also share system audio", or choose a tab and turn on "Also share tab audio". • Does it work with headphones? Yes. The computer's sound is captured directly, not through the microphone. • Is it free? Yes, with no watermark and no sign-up. • Tip: with the microphone on and sound playing through the speakers, the sound can be recorded twice. Headphones give the cleanest result.
