Overview

Journal quartile now and when published, retractions, field-normalised citations, SDGs, topic novelty and research-profile variety.

ScholarGauge adds journal quality, citation facts, topics and UN Sustainable Development Goals to Google Scholar™ pages – for papers in every field, from physics and medicine to economics, history and the arts – and tells you whether a combination of ideas has already been studied. UNDER EVERY SEARCH RESULT • The journal's SCImago quartile and SJR today • The journal's quartile in the year the paper appeared (SCImago's official figures for every year since 1999) • A warning if the paper is retracted, or if Scopus dropped the journal – and whether that happened before or after the paper appeared • Citations per year, and the paper's citation percentile in its field (top 1% and top 10% marked) • The paper's research topic and its UN Sustainable Development Goals • Open-access status • Sort by citations, citations per year, SJR or year; show or hide by quartile; export the page to CSV • Quartile colours: green-to-red, or shades of blue for colour-blind readers ON A SCHOLAR PROFILE: RESEARCH FINGERPRINT • Papers per year, coloured by the journal's quartile when each was published • A quartile matrix: papers in Q1–Q4 journals now and when published, and whether each journal has moved up or down since • How many papers are in Scopus-covered journals, and – with your own free Clarivate key – in the Web of Science Core Collection • Median citations per year and median field percentile, for all years or recent years only • Every number explains itself when you point at it • Venues with their quartile now and when the papers appeared • Research areas, fields and UN SDGs of the work • Interdisciplinarity (Rao–Stirling) and exploration of new topics over time • Variety indices – effective number of kinds, Simpson and evenness – for topics, fields, keywords, journals, co-authors and countries • Co-authors and their countries; flags for retractions and dropped journals RESEARCH LAB • Topic map: which keywords the most relevant papers on any topic study together, and which common pairs are missing • "Has it been done?": type two ideas (and a field) and get the papers that combine them plus a novelty (gap) index from 0 (crowded) to 100 (open gap), comparing the papers found with the number expected if the ideas were combined at random • For reliability and lifetime-model research, an extra dictionary of distributions, censoring schemes, models and methods • A Methods page gives every index's definition, formula, worked example and references, so the numbers can be reported in a paper PRIVACY FIRST • Free, no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising • Nothing is looked up until you agree on the welcome page • Only paper titles, first-author surnames, DOIs and your Research-lab searches are sent – and only to the public databases Crossref and OpenAlex (plus, only if you add your own Web of Science key, the DOIs of a profile's papers to Clarivate) • Settings and cached look-ups stay in your browser DATA SOURCES Journal quartiles: SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR, 1999–2025; new years can be added from the Options page). Paper records, topics and SDG tags: OpenAlex and Crossref. Citations per year: the counts shown by Google Scholar. SDG tags come from OpenAlex's own classifier, so counts can differ from other SDG mappings.
