Scholar Self-Citation Finder
Overview
Finds self-citations on a Google Scholar profile.
Are you curious about the self-citation rates of researchers on Google Scholar? The Scholar Self-Citation Finder is a powerful, privacy-first tool that analyzes Google Scholar profiles directly in your browser — no accounts, no servers, no data leaving your machine. With just one click, this extension will: - Expand all publications on a Google Scholar profile automatically. - Scan through every citation to identify self-citations based on the author's name. - Present a clean, floating dashboard with real-time progress, a live activity log, and percentage breakdown. - Calculate the total self-citation rate and generate a final report. KEY FEATURES Accurate Self-Citation Detection Handles accented characters (é, ü, ñ), hyphenated names, and abbreviated forms (e.g. "J. Smith", "Smith J.", "Smith, J.") — not just exact name matches. CSV Export Export the full results table (paper title, URL, total citations, self-citations, self-citation %) with one click after any scan. Persistent Results Scan results are saved locally in your browser. Reopen the Scholar profile the next day and your last scan is instantly restored — no need to re-scan. Stop & Resume Anytime Stop a running scan mid-way with a single click and resume exactly where you left off. Scan state is preserved across CAPTCHA pauses too. Adaptive Speed The scanner automatically speeds up during clean runs and slows down when Google pushes back — staying under the radar while finishing scans as fast as safely possible. Citation Threshold Skip papers with fewer than N citations (configurable). Set it to 10 and cut scan time by 30–50% for most profiles with no meaningful accuracy loss. Privacy First All processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to external servers. The extension only communicates with scholar.google.com to fetch public citation pages. CAPTCHA Support If Google triggers a CAPTCHA, the scan pauses safely, gives you a direct link to resolve it, and resumes exactly where it left off. Perfect for researchers, journal editors, bibliometric analysts, and academics who need to quickly verify citation metrics without tedious manual counting!
