TURN GOOGLE SCHOLAR INTO A RESEARCH-METRICS DASHBOARD A Google Scholar page may contain dozens of publications, but understanding their journal rankings and indexing usually requires checking several websites one by one. Scholar Metrics does that work for you. It adds trusted research metrics directly to Google Scholar, helping you understand a search page, reading list or researcher profile in seconds. WHY SCHOLAR METRICS IS USEFUL SAVE TIME ON REPETITIVE CHECKING No more copying journal titles into SCImago and the Web of Science Master Journal List one at a time. Scholar Metrics displays the available information directly beneath each publication: • Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4 quartile • SCIE, SSCI, AHCI or ESCI coverage • SJR score • Open-access status • Matched journal name You remain on Google Scholar while the metrics appear alongside the results. UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE PAGE—NOT JUST ONE JOURNAL Scholar Metrics does more than label individual publications. It summarises all the journal metrics found on the page. You can immediately see, for example, how many displayed publications are: • Q1 or Q2 • Indexed in SSCI, SCIE, AHCI or ESCI • Fully open access • Not found in Scopus or Web of Science This turns a long list of publications into a clear overview. EXPLORE A RESEARCHER’S PUBLICATION PROFILE When viewing a Google Scholar author profile, Scholar Metrics helps you see the composition of the publications currently loaded. Instead of manually counting journal categories, you can quickly explore questions such as: • How many displayed publications are in Q1 journals? • How many are indexed in SSCI or SCIE? • Which publications are in ESCI? • How many appear in fully open-access journals? • Which publications were not matched to Scopus or Web of Science? As you click “Show more,” the summary updates automatically. The extension clearly states that the figures cover only the publications currently loaded. It does not present a partial page as the researcher’s complete career record. FIND WHAT MATTERS TO YOU Every metric in the summary panel is interactive. Click Q1 to highlight Q1 publications. Select SSCI to focus on SSCI-indexed work. Combine Q1 and SSCI to explore publications matching either category. Matching results remain visible while the others fade, making patterns easier to identify across a long page. Each publication is counted only once, even when it belongs to several selected categories. READ RESULTS MORE EFFICIENTLY Colour-coded labels make the page easy to scan. A coloured line beside each publication reflects its quartile. You can locate Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 publications visually instead of reading every journal name. Hover over the metrics when you need more detail, including subject-specific quartiles, publisher, journal h-index, citations per document, coverage years and Web of Science subject categories. USE METRICS RESPONSIBLY Scholar Metrics makes research metrics more visible—it does not claim that metrics alone define research quality. The displayed information describes journals, not the quality of individual articles or researchers. A Q1 article may still have methodological weaknesses, while valuable research may appear in a lower-ranked, new, regional or unindexed journal. Use the extension to: • Identify patterns • Prioritise what to examine • Ask better-informed questions • Reduce repetitive journal checking Do not use it as an automatic score of an article or researcher. Research quality still requires attention to relevance, methods, evidence, reasoning and contribution.
