This extension has caused Google to block the access to Scholar to my computer.

Improper usage of Google Scholar might trigger the antirobot detection on the Google Scholar portal, not the presence of the extension. Have a look a the corresponding FAQ here: https://www.mat.unical.it/ianni/wiki/ScholarHIndexCalculator#throttling

Installed for Chrome on Ubuntu 12.04. No launch icon appears, can't figure out how to run it. I'm removing it.

There is no launch icon. Just browse to scholar.google.com and you'll get additional information when making queries.
