Overview

Saves the HLS, DASH or plain video that a page plays. Converts it to MP4, MKV or audio in your browser, with no companion app.

Savvid lists the video and audio streams that the page in your current tab plays and saves the one you choose as a single file in your Downloads folder. How it works 1. Open a page and start the video. 2. Click the Savvid icon or press Alt+Shift+V (Option+Shift+V on a Mac). What the page loaded is listed under "On this page" with its length and quality options. 3. Pick a quality and press Download. The parts are fetched and joined into one file inside your browser. What it can do - Recognises HLS (.m3u8) and DASH (.mpd) streams and plain media files such as MP4 and WebM. - On pages that carry their video links in their own data, and for some embedded video players, it reads that list of files to offer each quality. When a post holds several videos, each one is listed with its own title. - When a page fetches a video and its sound as separate files in small pieces, it offers the video only together with the sound of the same video. - Lets you choose the quality and, when there is more than one, the audio language and the subtitles. - Select: pick several videos and download them together. - Save as... (the pencil on each video) lets you change the file name first. - Joins the parts into one MP4 or MKV file with a converter that ships inside the extension (libav.js, an open-source build of FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly). No companion app is needed. You can also keep the original format without conversion. - Saves just the sound as M4A or MP3. - Records live HLS broadcasts for 10, 30 or 60 minutes, or until you stop it. - Shows progress on each video's button and in its Downloads tab, with pause, resume, cancel and retry. A file that missed a few parts can fetch just those parts again ("Retry missing"), and a file whose Save As dialog you closed stays available for 10 minutes ("Save again"). - Recent downloads: the last five videos you started to download, so you can download one again (for 6 hours by default) or open its page. Also included - A right-click item, "Find video with Savvid", on videos, audio and links. - A menu on each listed video: Copy stream URL, Copy page URL, Copy yt-dlp command, Open in new tab and Save as... - The X on a video removes it from the list, and Undo brings it back. - A notification when a download you started finishes or fails (you can turn it off in Settings). - Settings for the output format, audio format, file name pattern, subfolder, asking where to save, preferred quality and codec, downloads at the same time, connections per download, subtitles, web-optimised MP4, keeping downloads with missing parts, notifications, how long Recent downloads stay downloadable, and a light, dark or system theme. You can clear your data there too. - The keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+V, Option+Shift+V on a Mac (change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts) and keyboard control inside the popup. - A Help panel, and the converter's open-source notices under Settings. What it does not do - It does not work on YouTube. - It cannot save DRM-protected video, such as films and shows from paid streaming services. Those show a padlock and the note "Protected by the site (DRM). It cannot be saved." - Some players build the picture inside the page without a playlist an extension can read. Those videos are not listed. - Live recording works for HLS only. Live DASH streams are not supported. - It works on web pages (http and https) only, not on local files or browser pages. - A page that was open before you installed Savvid may need one reload. The popup offers it. - Files are assembled on your disk first, so free disk space is needed. - In incognito windows (only if you allow Savvid there), downloads are made without your cookies, so a video that needs you to be signed in may not download. Please save only content you own or have permission to keep. Privacy Everything happens in your browser. There is no server, no account, no analytics and no ads. Savvid reads the network requests of your tabs only to find videos, keeps its settings and download history on your computer, and sends nothing about you or your browsing to its developers. Media comes straight from the servers that the page names. Privacy policy: https://savvid.net/privacy
