Overview
Capture articles, bookmarks, and images straight into your Yaps vault. One click, and everything stays on your computer.
Save to Yaps is a web clipper that turns any web page into a clean, private note on your own computer. Click the toolbar button once and the article you are reading becomes a clutter-free note inside Yaps, the calm notes app for Mac and Windows. No account to set up, no server in the middle, and nothing ever leaves your machine. If you have ever emailed yourself a link, dropped twenty tabs into a "read later" pile you never open again, or lost a great article the moment you closed the tab, this is the fix. Save it once, find it forever, sitting right next to your own notes. TURN ANY WEBSITE INTO A NOTE This is the heart of it. Save to Yaps reads the page you are on and saves it as a real, editable note in your vault, not just a link that rots over time. Long articles are converted into distraction-free reading notes, with the ads, menus, banners, popups, and sidebars stripped away, so you keep the words and lose the noise. Any other page is saved as a tidy bookmark with its title, link, and preview image. Either way you end up with a plain Markdown file you fully own, ready to search, tag, edit, and link to the rest of your notes. WHAT YOU CAN SAVE • Articles, converted into clean reading notes with the menus, banners, popups, and clutter stripped away, so you keep the writing and lose the noise • Any web page, saved as a tidy bookmark with its title, link, and preview image • Images, saved straight to your vault by hovering over them, the easy way a pinboard works • Anything behind a right click, with "Save page to Yaps" and "Save image to Yaps" added to your context menu HOW IT FEELS TO USE • One click. Open the toolbar button and press Save. That is the whole flow. • Hover to save images. Move your mouse over any reasonably large image and a small "Save to Yaps" button appears in the corner. Click it and the picture is in your vault. • Tag as you go. Add comma separated tags before you save, or let Yaps file it for you automatically. • Choose the shape. Let it pick Article or Bookmark for you, or set it yourself when you want the control. • Land somewhere useful. Everything arrives in your vault's Resources folder, already searchable, taggable, and ready to link to your other notes. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Most "save it for later" tools quietly upload your reading habits to a company server. Save to Yaps does not. The extension only ever talks to the Yaps app running on your own Mac or Windows PC, over a local connection (127.0.0.1). Nothing is sent to a remote server. Nothing is collected, profiled, tracked, or sold. Your reading list, your research, and your saved images stay on your machine, full stop. It even works with your Wi-Fi switched off. If you have been hunting for a private, local alternative to cloud read-later services, this is it. BUILT FOR THE WAY YOU ACTUALLY WORK • Researchers and writers, building a body of sources you can search and cite later instead of a graveyard of open tabs • Students, collecting readings, references, and figures in one place for an essay or a thesis • Designers and curators, saving images and inspiration the fast, hover-to-save way • Anyone building a second brain or personal knowledge base who wants the web to flow into their notes, not into yet another silo WHY YAPS Yaps keeps your notes as plain Markdown files on your own computer, so you are never locked in and your library is genuinely yours. What you clip from the web lives beside your own writing, your dictated notes, and your daily notes, all in one calm, fast, private place. Capture a great article today, search for it in seconds next month, and link it to the project it belongs to. GETTING STARTED You need the free Yaps app for Mac or Windows. It is a browser extension that saves web pages, articles, and images into Yaps, a private notes app that runs locally on your own Mac or Windows computer. One click turns the page you are reading into a clean note in your vault. Can I save a web page or article as a note? Yes, that is exactly what it does. Articles are converted into clean, readable notes with the clutter stripped out, and other pages are saved as tidy bookmarks. Each one is stored as a plain Markdown file you own and can edit. Do I need the Yaps app? Yes. This extension is the browser half of Yaps. It saves what you find on the web into the Yaps desktop app, which is where your notes live. You can download it free at https://yaps.ai/download. If the app is not installed, the extension simply offers you the download link. Is my data sent anywhere? No. The extension talks only to the Yaps app on your own computer over a local connection. Nothing is uploaded, shared, profiled, or tracked. Does it work offline? Yes. Because everything is saved to the Yaps app on your own machine, saving works even with your Wi-Fi switched off. Is this a private alternative to read-later and web-clipper apps? Yes. If you have used tools like Pocket, Instapaper, or Evernote Web Clipper and want the same save-for-later habit without sending your reading to someone else's server, Save to Yaps gives you that, fully local and on your own computer. What exactly gets saved when I save a page? The page title, its web address, a preview image when one is available, and, for articles, the cleaned-up reading text with the clutter removed. You can add your own tags too. Where do my saves go? Into your Yaps vault, in a folder called Resources. From there they are searchable, taggable, and linkable like any other note. Does it slow down my browsing? No. The extension sits quietly and does nothing until you ask it to save. The hover-to-save button only appears when your mouse is over a large image. Is it free? Yes. The Save to Yaps extension is free, and the Yaps app is free to download for Mac and Windows. Which browsers are supported? Chrome and other Chromium based browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Arc. You will need the Yaps app for Mac or Windows. Save the web the calm way. Get Yaps free at https://yaps.ai/download, then add this extension and start clipping in one click.
