Overview
Prepare compressed WebP images for web layouts with a right-click. Keep transparency and source dimensions; conversion stays local.
Preparing pictures for a web page often means balancing download weight against appearance. Save image as WEBP creates a compressed copy of a graphic you find online, directly from its right-click menu. You get a file for your next layout without taking the original through an upload service. The converter uses lossy compression while retaining transparent areas. It is suited to small web images, but the saving varies with the source. Already compressed pictures may offer little room for improvement, so compare the result before replacing an asset in a published page. ⚖️ CHOOSE THE TRADEOFF • Keep the original width and height while changing the encoding. This is conversion, not resizing. • Preserve see-through edges in graphics that already have transparency. • Download the result with a filename based on the source address, ready to move into your project folder. Supported sources include PNG, JPG, AVIF, and SVG when they can be decoded. Vector artwork is rasterized, so its output has fixed pixel dimensions rather than remaining a scalable drawing. Compression can change fine details. If an illustration contains tiny lettering or sharp edges, inspect those areas at the size you plan to display them. There is no adjustable quality control in the popup. 🔧 USE IT WHERE YOU FIND THE ASSET Open the website containing the picture, right-click it, and select the extension's menu item. Conversion begins from that selection, and the finished copy enters your normal downloads. The toolbar popup provides instructions; you do not need to open a separate editor first. 💡 GOOD TO KNOW Can I convert image to WebP to reduce download size? Yes. This changes the file encoding, but actual byte savings depend on the original. Check the output weight instead of assuming a fixed reduction. Will this serve images in next-gen formats on my site automatically? No. You receive a local asset; uploading it and updating your site's references remain part of your publishing workflow. 🔒 ON-DEVICE PROCESSING The selected source is fetched from its website. Re-encoding takes place locally, with no account and no picture upload to a conversion server. Once downloaded, the result is yours to review before using it in a design.
