Overview
Bridges the Rust+ login flow on companion-rust.facepunch.com to rustplayertrack.app for server pairing.
Pair your Rust+ servers with rustplayertrack.app — securely bridges Facepunch's Steam login to your dashboard. The Rust Player Track Pair Helper is a tiny, focused browser extension that lets you pair Rust game servers with your rustplayertrack.app account. WHAT IT DOES When you click "Sign in with Steam" on the pairing modal, rustplayertrack.app opens Facepunch's official Rust+ login page in a new tab. This extension runs only on that page (and on rustplayertrack.app itself) — capturing the SteamID and AuthToken that Facepunch's mobile-only API delivers, then handing them back to rustplayertrack.app so it can register your account with Rust+. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - It does not store your Steam credentials. Anywhere. - It does not transmit anything to any server other than rustplayertrack.app's official pairing endpoint. - It does not read or modify any pages other than the two production hosts and one development host listed in the permissions. - Its background service worker is a message relay only: it re-broadcasts the captured pairing message from the Facepunch tab to your open rustplayertrack.app tab (content scripts cannot message each other directly). It holds no state and makes no network requests of its own. - The tabs permission exists solely so that relay can find your open rustplayertrack.app tab by URL. It never enumerates, reads, or modifies any other tab. - Beyond that it requests the minimum permissions possible — no all-urls access, no storage, no cookies, no webRequest. ABOUT THE LOCALHOST PERMISSION The manifest declares one development-only host permission: http://localhost:5173/* . That is the address of our local Vite dev server, used by maintainers to test extension changes against a local copy of rustplayertrack.app before publishing. It can never be reached from any user's browser unless that user is also running our dev server on the same machine. We chose to keep it visible in the published manifest rather than ship two divergent build configurations. WHY AN EXTENSION? Facepunch's Rust+ login flow is built for their mobile app — the official web sign-in only works inside a WebView. This extension supplies that integration so the same flow works in a normal browser. Every working third-party Rust+ web tool ships an extension for the same reason. SOURCE + LICENSE MIT-licensed. The extension source is available to Chrome Web Store reviewers on request and is published to the public GHCR container image alongside the wider rustplayertrack.app codebase.
