)Overview
A protein research observatory in every new tab. Bundled WebAssembly computation with explicit volunteer controls.
RoTab turns the browser’s new-tab page into a protein research workspace. Explore a molecular structure, follow measured energy snapshots, run a local Rosetta demonstration, or contribute to compatible volunteer research campaigns. Calculations run in bundled WebAssembly workers. No BOINC client, native helper, or local task server is required. Supported coordinate methods include scoring, minimization, repacking, FastRelax, and bounded design. Outputs are research results; RoTab does not submit official Rosetta@home work or award BOINC credit. Public Nostr relays provide participant discovery and encrypted connection signaling by default. Calculation starts only after explicit volunteer consent or a local run command. Connected browsers transfer scientific inputs, progress, and returned structures over WebRTC. Shared TURN relay access is included for connections that need a fallback. It uses a shared service allowance, and connection availability is not guaranteed. The submitting tab coordinates its campaign and must remain open to assign work and collect results. CPU, memory, battery, and network use depend on the structure and calculation settings. Controls select worker count and intensity, pause future assignments, and stop an active calculation. Cold engine initialization can take several minutes. Closing the computing tab can interrupt active work. Choose a Simple new-tab view or a detailed protein dashboard. Personalization includes favorite folders, optional most-visited shortcuts, weather, Gregorian/Shamsi/Qamari calendars, a Pomodoro timer, themes, backgrounds, and optional local to-do and drawing widgets. Search suggestions are off by default; enabling them sends partial queries to Google. Submitted searches open Google. Most-visited shortcuts and Google Calendar request optional permissions. Calendar connection requires an authorized OAuth configuration. Preferences and scientific records are stored in the browser profile. Published campaigns share their scientific content with participating browsers. Public relays, weather providers, Google, and connection providers receive the data needed for the features used, as described in the privacy policy. RoTab has no advertising or developer analytics integration. RoTab is independent of RosettaCommons, Rosetta@home, and BOINC endorsement.
