The fruit is small and round, with a shiny orange-yellow outer shell, which when ripe will be exposed behind a dry, light brown lantern-like shell. The shell surrounding the fruit is a sepal, shaped like a bag, with a thin mesh, when dry it looks like a paper coat. In the photo, you can see that the young fruit on the left is covered in a green shell with purple veins, when ripe, this shell dries and separates like flower petals.
