Overview
Private-by-default workspace for working text, with optional Root Connect through your own Google Drive.
Root Workspace is a private-by-default notes and quick-capture workspace for Chrome. Use it for working text that is not ready to become a document yet: rough notes, pasted research, webpage links, task lines, meeting notes, reusable prompts, snippets, and ideas you are still shaping. Capture into Inbox while you browse. Keep unfinished checklist lines visible in Open Tasks. Save repeatable instructions and text as Snippets. Keep meeting notes together in Meetings. When material needs to move into an AI chat, document, email, or conversation, use Context Handoff to select, frame, and preview the exact working text you want to copy. What Root helps with: - capture private notes quickly from Chrome - save a webpage title and link with your own note - append quick notes, tasks, and date stamps to Inbox or a pinned item - delete one Inbox capture without clearing the rest of Inbox - keep open task lines visible without building a separate task system - keep meeting notes and transcripts in a dedicated view - save reusable prompts, response formats, and text snippets - organize research links and reactions before the final document exists - prepare a smaller, cleaner context packet for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another assistant - preview the packet before anything leaves the workspace - import and export Markdown and text files - recover work through Archive, Trash, version history, and export Root calls this unfinished material working text. It is the useful middle between a fleeting thought and a finished note, task, document, prompt, or handoff. Private by default: - the Chrome workspace starts locally - no Root account is required for local use - copy, export, and Context Handoff are deliberate actions - current-page capture is user-triggered - Root does not run a hosted notes workspace Optional Root Connect: Root Connect is an optional upgrade available through supported Root mobile apps. It syncs your Root Workspace across supported devices using your own Google Drive. Root does not host your notes on its own servers, and you remain in control of when syncing occurs. Root is not trying to be a giant note archive, document editor, or project manager. Use those tools when the work is ready for them. Use Root for the working text before that. What's new in 0.1.10: - Delete an individual Inbox capture without removing the rest of Inbox. - Keep Inbox, Open Tasks, and Meetings visible while viewing Tags, Snippets, Archive, or Trash. - Protect cross-device changes with safer concurrent-update and permanent-deletion handling. - Follow clearer first-time Google Drive setup for Root Connect.
