Overview
Private-by-default workspace for working text, with optional sync through your own Google Drive using Root Connect.
Write beside the web, capture sources, and organize notes in Chrome. Sync with iPhone through your own Google Drive. Root Workspace gives working text a quiet place to land before it gets lost. Research Draft opens in Chrome's side panel and stays beside the pages you browse. Write in one automatically saved draft, attach webpages, capture selected text with its source, and mark quotes, findings, or questions without leaving your research. When the material is ready, save it as a new note and keep writing, or append the note and its sources to Inbox and start with a clear draft. Open the full workspace to review, edit, organize, and move the work forward. Root is also available on iPhone. It is the same core workspace in a smaller, capture-first app, with Voice Note and Meeting Transcripts built for moments away from your desk. Use Root Connect to sync devices through your own Google Drive, then keep shaping that working text in Chrome. Use root in Chrome to: •Keep an automatically saved Research Draft open while browsing •Attach pages and capture selected text with its source •Mark quotes, findings, and questions •Add dates, lists, tasks, and basic Markdown •Save research as a note without clearing the draft •Append a note and its sources to Inbox •Work through a structured, date-stamped Inbox •See unfinished checklist lines together in Open Tasks •Write, edit, pin, archive, and search notes •Save reusable Snippets •Keep meeting notes and iPhone-captured transcripts together •Prepare focused Context Handoffs •Import and export Markdown and text files •Recover work through Archive, Trash, version history, and library export •Sync supported Root devices through your own Google Drive using Root Connect Root is local-first and private by default. No Root account is required for local use. Root Connect is optional and asks for Google Drive access only when you choose to connect it. Your notes remain usable without Root Connect. Root does not operate a hosted notes or sync service. With Root Connect, Chrome and iPhone sync through your own Google Drive. Sync remains visible and user-controlled; Root does not promise real-time or always-on sync. What’s new in 0.1.23 - Research Draft has clearer controls and a cleaner writing area. Attached page sources stay out of the editor while remaining preserved in saved notes, Inbox appends, and copied Markdown. - Archive, Snippets, and Trash have a more balanced layout, and long note titles display more cleanly. - Context Handoff now groups sharing under Export, with Save Markdown, Share text, and Save PDF. PDF exports omit the raw Source line. - Inbox source indicators now recognize Android captures while keeping Android and iPhone under the same mobile icon style. No new required permissions.
