root workspace

Local-first workspace for working text in Chrome. Capture fast, back up clearly, and hand off context to ChatGPT or Gemini.

Use it for the text you are still working with: rough notes, pasted research, page links, tasks, repeated snippets, and the project context you keep reaching for. In the current beta, `root` opens as your new-tab workspace. If you prefer one stable workspace tab instead, you can turn on Redirect new tabs in Quick Capture and use `Open workspace` on demand. root is not trying to be a giant note archive or a heavy project system. It is a lighter work surface that helps you: - capture text quickly into Inbox - use Quick Capture from the extension button - append into Inbox or pinned items - turn rough text into bullets, tasks, and cleaner working notes - reuse saved snippets without cluttering the main list - review unfinished checklist items in Open Tasks - drag one or more `.md` or `.txt` files straight onto the workspace to import them - preview and copy only the context you choose with Copy Context and Context Handoff Why people use root: - private by default - stored locally in the browser - plain-text and markdown-friendly - lightweight and fast - explicit about what gets shared Current features include: - new-tab workspace - optional on-demand mode with Redirect new tabs - Quick Capture popup - Inbox - Open Tasks - snippets - Clean View - tags and pinned items - export and import - drag-and-drop `.md` and `.txt` import - Archive and Trash - Context Handoff with optional metadata and links-only output If you just want a fast local notepad, root is good at that too. It just does more with working text than a plain scratchpad.
