Overview

Snapshots your tabs, remembers what you read, and recovers your workspace after a crash. Local-first & encrypted.

Your browser remembers your work — not just your history, but what you were actually doing. Rewind My Browser is a local-first extension that quietly snapshots your tabs, indexes the pages you read, remembers the searches you ran, and can bring your entire workspace back after a crash or an accidental close. Everything happens on your device. There is no Rewind server, no account to create, and no analytics — your data stays in your browser's own storage unless you explicitly choose to sync it, encrypted, to your own Google Drive. WHAT IT DOES 📸 Tab Snapshots & Timeline • Automatically captures your open windows, tabs, and tab groups on a timer and whenever your tabs change. • Browse a timeline of past snapshots and jump back to any point. • One click restores an entire browsing session — 5 tabs or 500. ↩️ Crash Recovery • On startup, compares your last snapshot against what actually reopened. • Offers to recover any tabs that went missing — no more losing 40 tabs to a crash. 🧠 Browser Memory — deterministic search, no AI • Indexes the pages you visit: title, description, keywords, language, word count, and a short excerpt. • Ask it things like "what was I reading about pricing last week" or "pages I keep coming back to" and get ranked results — instantly, fully offline, with a transparent BM25 ranking algorithm. No AI, no black box, no cloud calls. • Exclude any site from indexing, or turn page capture off entirely. 🔎 Search-Query Memory • Remembers what you typed into Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, YouTube, and other recognized search engines, plus which results you opened afterward. • Turns a scattered research session into something you can find again. 🕘 Recently Visited on This Site • On Amazon? See your last pages on Amazon — not your entire Chrome history. 🧵 Research Sessions • Automatically clusters related pages into threads, e.g. "Monday morning · 12 pages · from search 'react hooks' · reopen" — so a research thread is never lost. 🔒 Encryption Vault (optional) • Turn on AES-256-GCM encryption for snapshots and Browser Memory, protected by a passphrase you choose. • The passphrase is stretched with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA-256 (310,000 iterations) and never stored or transmitted. • Auto-locks after a period of inactivity you control. If you forget your passphrase, nobody — including us — can recover the data. 📝 Task Memory (opt-in, per-site) • Off by default. You turn it on, then explicitly add specific sites to an allowlist — nothing is recorded anywhere else. • On an allowlisted site, remembers the sequence of actions you took: button labels you clicked, the labels/types of fields you filled, file names uploaded or downloaded, form submissions, and in-page navigation. • It NEVER records what you typed. Password and hidden fields are skipped entirely, at the browser level — the values never even reach the extension. • Task Memory data is always encrypted at rest and never synced — it stays only on the device where it was recorded. ☁️ Sync — optional, and to storage you control • Encrypted backup file: export one file, import it on another machine. It never touches our servers because we don't have any. • Google Drive (optional): connects with the narrow `drive.appdata` scope, which only grants access to a hidden per-app folder in YOUR Drive — never your files. Everything uploaded is client-side encrypted before it leaves your device; neither we nor Google can read it. Disconnect any time from Settings or from your Google Account permissions page. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT • Local-first: works fully offline, keeps working if we disappear tomorrow. • Deterministic search: no AI, no hallucinated results, no query ever leaves your machine. • Real privacy architecture, not a policy promise: no analytics, no telemetry, no ads, no third-party scripts, no server that receives your data. • You hold the delete button: clear any site, any store, or everything, any time.
