Rewind & Forward for Youtube™
Overview
This extension incorporate Rewind and Fast Forward buttons into the video player on the YouTube website.
Rewind & Forward for YouTube™ — Skip Video by Your Own Seconds YouTube gives you exactly one way to jump through a video: five seconds at a time. That default was never designed for the way people actually watch. Sometimes you miss a single word and need to nudge back three seconds. Sometimes you are sitting through a sixty-second sponsor read and want it gone in one click. Rewind & Forward for YouTube™ puts that choice back in your hands. WHAT IT DOES This extension adds a pair of Rewind and Fast Forward buttons directly into the YouTube video player, right beside the native controls. Click them and the video jumps by exactly the number of seconds you chose — anything from 1 second to 7200 seconds (two full hours). No more tapping the arrow key twelve times to skip a minute. No more dragging the progress bar and overshooting the part you wanted. The buttons are not bolted on top of YouTube. They are built to look and behave as though YouTube shipped them itself: the same icon weight, the same hover tooltips, the same fade-out behaviour when the controls auto-hide, the same sizing and spacing as the play and next buttons around them. YouTube regularly changes its player design, and the extension detects and adapts to both the classic and the newer player layouts, matching the icons and dimensions in use on your screen so the controls never look out of place. A SECOND PAIR OF BUTTONS One skip length is rarely enough. A lecture, a podcast and a music video all want different jumps. Enable the optional second pair of buttons and you get two independent skip amounts on screen at the same time — for example a short 10-second pair for catching a missed sentence, and a long 90-second pair for clearing intros, ads and sponsor segments in a single click. Both pairs sit together in the player, each with its own tooltip telling you exactly how far it will jump. KEYBOARD AND MEDIA KEY CONTROL If you would rather keep your hands on the keyboard, you can. Turn on the arrow key option and your left and right arrow keys stop using YouTube's fixed 5-second step and start using your own custom seconds instead. Everything else about the keys stays the same — they still work while the video is focused, and the extension deliberately stands aside whenever you are typing in a search box, a comment field or any other text input, so you never lose a half-written comment to an accidental seek. You can also take over your keyboard's dedicated media keys. Many keyboards, headsets and laptops carry Previous Track and Next Track keys that do nothing useful on a YouTube page. Enable the media key option and those keys become your rewind and fast forward, jumping by your chosen seconds without you ever leaving the video, moving the mouse or even focusing the browser window in the usual way. SIMPLE, CLEAR SETTINGS Everything is configured from a single compact popup. Click the toolbar icon and you get four number fields, three checkboxes and two buttons — nothing more. Set your rewind amount, set your forward amount, optionally enable the second pair and the keyboard options, then save. Changes apply to open YouTube tabs immediately; there is no reload, no refresh, no restart. A one-click Reset returns everything to defaults if you want to start again. The popup ships with both a light and a dark theme and remembers which one you prefer. Your settings sync through your browser account, so the skip amounts you configure on your desktop follow you to any other computer where you are signed in. BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY YouTube is a single-page app: it swaps videos without reloading the page, and most player extensions break the moment you click a suggested video or an autoplay kicks in. This one watches for those navigations and rebuilds its buttons every time, including on playlists, autoplay chains, Shorts navigation and back-button history moves. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS The extension asks for exactly one permission: storage, used solely to remember your own settings. It has no access to your browsing history, your Google account, your watch history or any other site. It runs only on youtube.com pages. It collects no analytics, sends no data anywhere, contains no ads, no trackers and no third-party scripts, and works entirely offline. Nothing you configure ever leaves your browser except through your own browser's built-in settings sync. FULLY TRANSLATED The interface is available in more than forty languages, including Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. Install it once, set your seconds, and watch YouTube the way you actually want to.
