ReviewLens uses two layers of analysis: LAYER 1 — On-platform signals (4 detection methods): • Rating Distribution — Genuine products follow a natural J-curve: lots of 5-stars, some 1-stars, few 2–3 stars. A wall of 5-stars with almost no critical reviews is a classic manipulation pattern. We flag it. • Review Velocity — A sudden spike of dozens of reviews in a single week is statistically abnormal. Real products accumulate reviews gradually over time. • Unverified Purchase Ratio — Reviews from accounts that never bought the product carry little credibility. A high proportion of unverified reviews is a red flag. • Generic Short Reviews — Incentivized review farms typically produce short, vague, five-word reviews like "Great product! Love it!" with no specific details. We measure this. LAYER 2 — Reddit cross-referencing (our key differentiator): No other review checker does this. We search Reddit for real discussions about the product — outside the retailer's controlled environment — and analyse community sentiment. Fake review operations cannot manipulate Reddit. If a product has 4.8 stars on Amazon but Reddit users consistently describe it as "garbage" or "fell apart after a week," that's a signal you won't get anywhere else. The Reddit search is targeted: we extract the brand name and key product terms, quote the brand for exact matching, and filter out irrelevant posts using a relevance scoring system.
