Overview

Give selected browser history a personal expiration date.

Retentia gives selected browser history a configurable expiration date, with local rules, cleanup, and privacy-first protection. Instead of keeping all history forever, Retentia lets you decide how long specific websites should remain in Chrome history. You can create rules for exact URLs, domains, wildcard patterns, and regular expressions. The extension then cleans up matching history automatically based on the retention period you choose. Retentia is built for local-only operation. It does not use accounts, analytics, remote services, or server-side processing. Your rules, settings, activity totals, and category overrides stay on your device. Features: Exact URL or domain rules Retention periods in minutes, hours, or days Immediate deletion or delayed cleanup Dry-run simulator before deletion Local activity log with count-only summaries Quick rule creation from the popup Right-click actions from Chrome history Light and dark mode Password-protected dashboard and rule management Built-in category rules and local category scanning Protected websites that always override deletion rules Backup and restore for local configuration Retentia is designed for people who want more control over browser history without giving up privacy. It keeps the important parts local and simple: define the rule, preview the effect, and let the extension handle the cleanup. Data accessed Retentia accesses browser history only to match URLs against retention rules and remove URLs whose configured retention period has expired. It also reads the active tab URL when the user explicitly creates a quick rule from the popup or adds a history entry to a rule. Data stored Retention rules, settings, category overrides, protected websites, count-only scan summaries, and count-only activity entries are stored in Chrome's local extension storage on the user's device. Activity entries and saved scan summaries do not contain deleted URLs or domains. Candidate URLs may exist temporarily in memory while the simulator or category review view is open, but they are not written to persistent logs or activity history. Retentia does not create a separate browser-history log file on the filesystem. Retention rules necessarily store the URL, domain, wildcard, or regular-expression pattern entered by the user so the local background engine can apply that rule. Data transmission and sharing Retentia does not transmit, sell, share, or remotely process browser history or other personal data. It does not use analytics, advertising, account systems, or remote databases. Data deletion Users can clear the local activity log from the dashboard. Uninstalling the extension removes its local extension data according to browser behavior. History removed by Retentia cannot be restored by the extension. The forgotten-password reset deletes the locally stored password hash, retention rules, activity log, authentication-delay state, and last scan summary. It does not delete browser history. Password lock scope The local password lock is designed to discourage casual access to rule management. It does not protect against a person with full access to the user's operating-system account, Chrome profile, local extension storage, or browser developer tools.
