Resonance Retuner
Overview
Estimate original musical reference tuning, calculate retuned output, and explore alternative tunings on YouTube.
Explore how music on YouTube and YouTube Music sounds at alternative musical reference tunings. Resonance Retuner gives you direct control over the assumed A4 reference used for playback. Select a preset, enter a custom target, compare the original with the tuned version, or estimate the current recording's reference tuning from a short section of audio. KEY FEATURES • Retune YouTube and YouTube Music playback in real time • Choose 396, 417, 432, 528, 639, 741, 852 or 963 Hz presets • Enter any custom reference from 300–1000 Hz • Analyze ten seconds of current audio to estimate its A4 reference • View an estimation confidence score • Automatically use the detected reference as the source tuning • Switch instantly between original and tuned playback • Keep preferences stored locally in Chrome • No account, cloud processing, analytics or advertising HOW RETUNING WORKS The extension calculates the ratio between the chosen target reference and source reference, then applies that ratio to the active HTML5 media element while disabling browser pitch preservation. In this version, pitch and playback tempo change together. For example, converting A=440 Hz to A=432 Hz plays at approximately 0.9818× speed. ABOUT ANALYSIS A song contains many frequencies, so the extension does not claim that a song has one frequency. It estimates the recording's musical reference tuning from stable detected pitches. Results are approximate and work best with sustained tonal music. Speech, percussion, noise, analogue drift and unusual tuning systems may reduce confidence or prevent a result. WELLNESS DISCLOSURE Preset labels describe cultural and sound-wellness associations. Specific healing effects are not established medical facts. Resonance Retuner does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition and is not a medical product. PRIVACY All processing occurs locally in the browser. Audio is sampled in memory only after the user selects Analyze; it is not recorded, uploaded or shared. The extension stores only user preferences and the latest estimate in local Chrome extension storage.
