Request Formatter for DevTools
Overview
Format HTTP request, response, and WebSocket payloads directly inside Chrome DevTools.
Request Formatter for DevTools adds a Request Formatter panel to Chrome DevTools. It automatically captures completed Network requests from the current page and formats URL params, request headers, request bodies, response headers, and response bodies. It also prettifies JSON and application/x-www-form-urlencoded data. The extension also supports WebSocket inspection, including handshake information, connection status, message lists, and message details. JSON content in WebSocket text frames is formatted automatically. Built for debugging APIs and real-time traffic, it includes request filtering, capture pause, list clearing, and one-click copy for formatted results. For performance and stability, the left-side request list keeps up to the latest 500 entries, and each WebSocket connection keeps up to the latest 500 messages. Permissions • clipboardWrite: used to copy formatted content to the clipboard. • debugger: used to access Chrome DevTools Protocol for WebSocket handshake and message capture. Data access notes • Request data is only available while DevTools is open and this panel is in use. • WebSocket capture may trigger Chrome’s browser-level debugging notice. • Response body access is limited by Chrome DevTools API capabilities. • Binary WebSocket frames are shown with size and metadata only; binary HTTP responses are shown as base64. • The extension does not upload your traffic data anywhere.
