Overview

Close newly opened duplicate tabs using your own ordered regular expressions.

Define what counts as the same page with JavaScript regular expressions. When a new tab matches the same rule-derived identity as an older tab, the extension focuses the oldest match and closes only the new tab. Existing duplicates are left alone. Features: - Create, edit, enable, disable, reorder, and delete URL rules. - Use capture group 1 as the duplicate identity, or the full regex match when the expression has no capture groups. - Start with editable presets for GitHub pull requests and issues, YouTube videos, Google Docs, Jira issues, and URLs without query strings. - Close a known duplicate before its page finishes loading when Chrome provides the destination URL early. - Keep regular and incognito browsing contexts separate. - Sync rule settings through Chrome Sync, with a local backup when sync is temporarily unavailable. - Fail open. If Chrome cannot safely verify, focus, or close a tab, the new tab remains open. Rules run from top to bottom. The first enabled expression that matches a URL owns that URL, so specific rules can sit above broad fallback rules. A missing or empty identity never closes a tab. Privacy: All URL matching happens locally in Chrome. The developer has no analytics, advertising, tracking, accounts, or server that receives browsing activity. The extension temporarily stores unfinished new-tab checks and tab creation order in Chrome session storage so work can recover after service-worker inactivity and future matches can be ranked by age. Only saved rule settings use Chrome Sync. Regex Tab Dedupe requests no host permissions, injects no content scripts, and contains no remote code. Regex Tab Dedupe reads the full HTTP(S) URLs of browser tabs inside Chrome to identify a newly opened duplicate. It does not send tab URLs to the developer or any developer-controlled service.
