Locally redact PII in AI chat drafts using openai/privacy-filter (Transformers.js). Draft text never leaves your browser.
Never accidentally paste sensitive data into AI again. Redact AI is a browser extension that finds names, addresses, phone numbers, payment cards, secrets, and other personally identifiable information in the text you are about to send to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, or Google AI Studio — and replaces each span with a typed placeholder such as [REDACTED:person], [REDACTED:email], or [REDACTED:card]. You review the draft, edit anything the detector missed or over-masked, then press Send. LOCAL INFERENCE — NOTHING UPLOADED FOR REDACTION • Detection runs entirely in your browser via an offscreen document (Chrome Manifest V3). • Your draft text is never sent to FrameworkAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Microsoft for redaction. • On first use, model weights may download from Hugging Face into IndexedDB; that is the only network call related to detection. After caching, redactions stay local and fast. TWO SURFACES 1. Chat composer — Floating Redact button and global shortcut Alt+Shift+R on supported AI chat hosts. Reads up to 32,000 characters per draft, runs the privacy model plus deterministic rules, and writes redacted text back into the composer. 2. PDF redactor — Open from the extension popup. Upload a PDF, scan the text layer, toggle findings per page, and export a visually flattened redacted PDF. HOW DETECTION WORKS • ONNX model: openai/privacy-filter via Transformers.js — catches prose-style people, organisations, locations, and dates. • Rule engine: high-signal patterns for emails, phones (AU/US/UK), Luhn-valid cards, SSN shapes, ABN, IPv4, Stripe-style secrets, JWTs, ISO and written dates, and more. • Overlapping spans merge so the same fact is not double-redacted. IMPORTANT Redact AI is a redaction aid, not a compliance or anonymisation guarantee. Automatic detection can miss sensitive content or redact too aggressively. Always review output before sending or sharing.
