Overview

Press Alt+Q to switch between your recently used tabs with a thumbnail picker — just like Alt+Tab, but for browser tabs.

Recent Tabs Picker is a keyboard-first tab switcher that brings the familiar Alt+Tab experience to your Chrome tabs. Press Alt+Q (customizable at chrome://extensions/shortcuts) to open a thumbnail picker showing your most recently used tabs in the current window. Hold Alt+Q to keep the picker visible and navigate with the arrow keys, release Alt to switch to the highlighted tab. Tap the shortcut quickly to jump instantly to your last tab — no UI flash, just like Alt+Tab between windows. Key features • Per-window MRU tracking. Only tabs from the window you are working in appear, so your context stays focused. • Live thumbnails. Each card shows a preview of the page, so you can tell tabs apart at a glance. • Favicon + title fallback for pages where capture is not available (for example, chrome:// or the Web Store). • Quick-tap shortcut. Tap and release instantly to jump to your last tab — the overlay never flashes. • Hold-and-browse. Keep Alt held to navigate with Arrow keys, Tab / Shift+Tab, or mouse hover. Release Alt to confirm. • Configurable number of tabs displayed (3, 5, 7, or 10). • Optional background blur behind the overlay. • Works on any HTTP/HTTPS page. Chrome-restricted pages (chrome://, Web Store, PDF viewer, file://) are automatically handled by switching directly to the most recent other tab. Who it is for Power users who juggle many tabs and want the muscle-memory speed of Alt+Tab without reaching for the mouse or scanning the tab strip. Privacy No data leaves your machine. MRU state and thumbnails live in Chrome's session storage and are cleared when Chrome restarts. Your picker preferences are stored locally in your Chrome profile. No analytics, no tracking, no external servers. Tips • Re-bind the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts if Alt+Q conflicts with something else. • Reload already-open tabs once after installing so the overlay script is available on them (the extension also injects on-demand as a fallback).
