Filter Google Search results by date with one click. Your settings stay put when you close the browser, and if you are signed in to Chrome they sync automatically across your devices. [Who it's for] Do you click "Tools" and then "Any time" on every single search? Recen is for people who want to see recent articles first, and who would rather not wade through outdated pages and low-quality AI-generated content. [Features] ■ Date filter Presets for the past hour, 24 hours, week, month, 3 months, 6 months, year and 3 years, plus a custom date range. The date picking you would otherwise repeat in Google's own UI on every search becomes a single click. ■ Profiles (new in v1.1) Save up to five sets of search settings and switch between them in one click. Keep "Work" on the past month and "Research" on the past 3 years instead of reconfiguring the range every time you change what you are looking for. Each profile also keeps its own exclusion list. ■ Per-domain period rules (new in v1.1) When you search a specific site with site:example.com, apply a different timeframe to that site (up to 30 rules). Search the last year by default, but leave an official documentation site unfiltered, for example. These rules are shared by all profiles. ■ Settings that persist and sync The range you pick stays active when you close the tab and when you restart the browser. If you are signed in to Chrome, your desktop, laptop and other devices pick up the same settings, so recent results come first wherever you search. ■ AI spam site exclusion (domain blocking) Add sites that publish mostly low-quality AI-generated articles to a blocklist, one domain at a time (up to 50 per profile). Once a domain is on the list, it is excluded from your Google Search results from then on. Note that Recen does not detect AI-generated content automatically. ■ Usage statistics (new in v1.1) See which timeframes you actually use and how often the filter was applied. Everything is aggregated on your own device and never transmitted anywhere. It is not synced to your other devices either, and you can clear it at any time from the options page. ■ Badge on the results page A small badge on the search results page tells you which timeframe is currently applied. Dismiss it right there when you don't need it. ■ Keyboard shortcuts Switch to the timeframes you use most without touching the mouse. Alt+Shift+2 to Alt+Shift+5 are assigned to the past 24 hours, week, month and year; you can change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. ■ On/off toggle Turn Recen off with one click to see Google's normal results, and back on to restore your settings exactly as they were. [What's new in v1.1.0] ■ The planned features are here, free Multiple profiles, per-domain period rules and usage statistics — the features this page previously described as coming in a paid Pro version — are all implemented in v1.1.0 and free to use. ■ If you use Recen on more than one computer (important) v1.1.0 changes how settings are stored. Please update every device to v1.1.0 or later. A device still on v1.0.1 keeps its own settings, and the two will not sync with each other. Once every device is updated, syncing works as before. Your existing settings — timeframe, excluded domains and so on — carry over automatically. [How Recen differs from other date-filter extensions] Most date-filter extensions lose your setting the moment you open a new tab or click a link and come back. Recen saves and syncs it, so Google Search gets a date range that is simply always on. Combine profiles with per-domain rules and the search environment you built travels with you, whatever you are looking up. [Permissions] - storage: to save your filter settings, and to keep usage statistics on your device - declarativeNetRequest: to add the date parameter to Google Search URLs - webNavigation / tabs: to detect in-page re-searches (SPA navigation) on Google Search and to count how often the filter was applied (Google Search pages only) Host permissions are limited to Google Search domains. Recen does not run on any other website. [Privacy] Recen does not collect, transmit or store personal data. There is no analytics, no telemetry and no communication with any external API. Settings sync through Chrome's own mechanism (chrome.storage.sync). The data is stored on Google's servers, tied to your Google Account, and never passes through any server run by the developer. There is no such server in the first place, so there is nothing to leak or sell. Usage statistics are stored on your device only (chrome.storage.local). They are not synced to your other devices and are never transmitted. Recen records only how many times each timeframe was applied, how many times the filter was switched on or off, a per-day count for the last 30 days, and the date counting began. Your search terms, the URLs and domains you visit, and tab identifiers are never recorded. The permissions Recen requests are the minimum needed to filter Google Search.
