Readox is a Chrome text-to-speech reader for web pages, PDFs, selected text, and text files. Listen to articles, docs, notes, and screenshots in Chrome with word-by-word highlighting and OCR. Free to start. No account required. Readox Pro adds premium English voices that run on your device. FEATURES Read web pages and PDFs aloud Listen to articles, blog posts, documentation, and many PDFs directly in Chrome. Read only what you want Highlight any section on a page and play just that text, or press play to read the whole page. Text files Open or drop .txt, .md, and .markdown files directly in the side panel to listen. Word-by-word highlighting Follow each spoken word in the transcript so you can keep your place and stay focused. OCR for images and screenshots Extract text from screenshots, images, and scanned content and read it aloud. Library Save pages, notes, summaries, PDFs, and text files so you can come back and listen later. Library collections Readox Pro includes up to 10 collections so you can organize different listening queues for work, study, long reads, or review. Keyboard shortcuts Use shortcuts to read a page or selection, play, pause, stop, skip, and change speed. You can also assign your own shortcuts in chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Keyword highlighting Highlight important terms in the transcript during playback so you never miss what matters. Adjustable speed Choose a listening speed from 0.5x to 2x. Privacy-first Speech playback and OCR run locally. Premium voices also run on your device. READOX PRO 28 premium English voices Choose from 28 natural-sounding American and British English voices. Premium voices run on your device Get private listening with unlimited premium voice usage. Sign in only if you want Pro. AI summaries Get a short summary of a page or selected text when you want the key points fast. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open Readox in the Chrome side panel. 2. Press play to read the page, or select text to read only that section. 3. Follow the highlighted transcript. 4. Use playback controls or keyboard shortcuts to navigate.
