I want to rate this higher, but the pop-up function no longer works. From what I can tell looking at the code errors that Chrome provides, something changes with the https and pop-ups are no longer allowed on the browser, even if you change the security setting to allow it pop-ups as suggested. I have tried in multiple browsers, and I receive the same error. It's pretty inconvenient to have to open a new window every time you look up a word and ruins the flow.

Your security permissions are asking if it can read my email contacts when I install. No thanks!
Steve RidoutDeveloperSep 4, 2016
It shouldn't be able to access your contacts. It should only be able to access your email address and your basic publicly shared info on Google. If you try this again, please let me know exactly what it asks for.

I was running out of motivation going from beginner to intermediate. I found this at the perfect time! For other resources 1) Use Duolingo until you're about level 10 2) Find a wordlist like on Memrise or Anki. Learn the top 1,500 most common words. 3) This thing!!! Context is super important and this is a great way for late beginners to get it.

Very limited support for the language I'm learning (Japanese).
Steve RidoutDeveloperJan 27, 2016
True, Japanese support is in beta and Readlang doesn't claim to have great support for it. The languages which are not in beta should offer a better experience.

Didn't load, so I have no idea if it's any good if you can see it. I was excited to try it, but no luck. Needs update. - Win10

That's strange, many users are using Readlang using Chrome on Windows 10 - could you give it another shot and please let me know where it gets stuck. Thanks!

This is an excellent tool for intermediate and advanced language learners. I particularly like the private and public texts, as well as the user ability to modify definitions in his/her word list and flashcard sections. I use ReadLang for French and Spanish input and flashcard review. However, although I am an avid language learner myself, I use this marvelous tool most often in my English teaching/English coaching activities. My clients love it, and so do I. I work with clients one-on-o... Show more

I speak 7 languages and I've used most of the language learning tools available so it doesn't happen very often that I discover something new that I'm genuinely impressed by. Readlang is one of those times! It's well designed, has just enough features, and is incredibly effective.

I will give four stars because I still trying to find if this nice tool will help my vocabulary grow. For instance the translation are not coming on the way I expect.

NOT for beginners
Steve RidoutDeveloperOct 16, 2015
Hi Sandra. Readlang isn't for beginners, that's true, it's for intermediate and advanced language learners who want to read real native texts. Did something mislead you into thinking it would allow you to learn a language from scratch? If you had trouble learning to use the app, please check out this YouTube playlist where I explain step-by-step how to get started with Readlang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vl6Q695VnU&list=PLIGa-eWCssj_dcE9GXkpLSFB9t8qZyZn2
