The default reading speeds are based on Brysbaert's 2019 review of reading rate research, and the speaking speed reflects a typical presentation pace. Not sure how fast you read? There's no account and nothing is sent to any server. The extension only reads a web page when you click "Use selected text", and then only the text you've selected. Your custom speeds are saved by Chrome and sync across your devices if Chrome sync is turned on.
