Reading Pencil: Reading Ruler & Line Guide

Overview
Never lose your place reading online. A reading ruler that glides under each line at your pace and remembers where you stopped.
Never lose your place when you read online. Reading Pencil is a reading ruler and line guide for the web. A small pencil sits under the line you're reading and moves along it at your own pace, like running a finger under the line in a paper book. Look away, look back, and your eyes know exactly where you were. It is made for anyone who finds long pages hard to follow: tired eyes, a busy mind, dyslexia or ADHD, reading in a second language, or simply a long article at the end of the day. It helps you take a long page line by line, staying with one line at a time. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open an article, a story or any long page you want to read. 2. Click the Reading Pencil icon and turn the switch on, or right-click a paragraph and choose "Start reading here". 3. Press the space bar. The pencil moves along the line, then down to the next. Press it again to pause. WHAT IT DOES • A line reader that moves by itself: no need to hold the mouse under the line. • Goes at your pace: slow, average, fast, or a speed you choose. • Gently lights up the line you're on, so it's easy to find again. • Remembers where you stopped on long pages. Open the page from "Where you left off" and the pencil is waiting on that line. • Keeps to the article: skips menus, sidebars, comments and footers. • A pencil or a plain line, in six colours, held in your right or left hand. • Simple keys: Space to start or pause, ↑ and ↓ to go back or on a line, Esc to put it down. Click any line to move the pencil there. EASY TO LEARN A short welcome page opens when you add it, where you try the pencil right away, on a passage written for it. "How to use" in the toolbar window explains everything again, any time. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Works on your computer only: no account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking. • Never uploads what you read. Your settings and saved places stay in your browser, and nothing is kept from Incognito windows. GOOD TO KNOW • It appears only when you start it, and only on that page. • It doesn't work on Chrome's own pages or on PDF files. • Shortcut: Alt+Shift+R (Control+Shift+R on a Mac) turns it on or off. Reading Pencil is a reading aid, not a medical device or treatment.
