Overview

Text to speech that reads web pages, PDFs and documents aloud with word highlighting. License required. Built-in voices or your own.

Readhum is text to speech (TTS) for Chrome: it reads any web page, PDF or document aloud, with every word highlighted as it’s spoken. Pay once: no subscription. Want to get through your reading faster? Readhum reads articles and documents aloud at up to 4.5× speed, and lights up each sentence and word so your eyes and ears stay on the same line. Tired of reading on a screen? Press play and listen. Look away whenever you like: the highlight shows you where you are when you look back. Want a voice you really like? Readhum reads with the voices already on your computer, or with a voice service you set up yourself. == Readhum features == ➤ Listen to any page Turn any article into audio. Click the round button at the edge of the page, or press Alt+Shift+R. Readhum finds the article and skips the clutter around it. ➤ Every word highlighted The sentence and the word being spoken light up as Readhum reads, and the page scrolls to follow along. Choose your own highlight colours. ➤ Start anywhere A play button sits beside every paragraph. While Readhum reads, click any word to jump to it, or Alt+click a word to start reading there. ➤ Listen at any speed From 0.5× to 4.5×. Skip forward and back a sentence at a time from the player or with keyboard shortcuts. ➤ Read PDFs and e-books aloud Open a file, paste some text or follow a link: the Readhum Reader shows it as a clean page and reads it to you. Your library remembers where you stopped in each one. ➤ Select and listen Select some text and choose Listen, or right-click anywhere on a page to start listening from there. ➤ Save it as audio Export a document as an audio file when you use ElevenLabs or your own voice server, and listen away from your computer. ➤ A player that stays out of the way Drag it where you like, choose a horizontal bar or a slim vertical column, or hide Readhum on sites where you don’t want it. ➤ Make it yours Choose from fifteen button styles, and fine-tune many of them to suit you. ➤ Other features • Reads pages in other languages with a matching voice from your computer, when it has one. • Keyboard shortcuts for play and pause, next and previous sentence. • One license works in up to 3 browsers. == Voices == Readhum doesn’t include voices of its own. Out of the box it uses the text to speech voices built into your computer and Chrome, and some of those work offline. For other voices, set one up yourself: • a voice server you run on your own computer or network, such as Kokoro; • your own ElevenLabs account (ElevenLabs bills you for what you use). == Who it’s for == ➤ Students Listen to your course reading while you follow the highlighted words, at the speed that suits you. ➤ Readers who find long text hard going Hearing the words while you see each one highlighted can make long text easier to follow and less tiring to read, which many people with dyslexia find helpful. ➤ Language learners Hear how each word is said while you see it on the page, in any language your computer has a voice for. ➤ Writers and editors Proofread by ear: paste a draft into the Reader and hear it read back. Clumsy sentences and missing words are easier to catch that way. ➤ Professionals Get through long reports and articles with your eyes free for other things. ➤ Anyone with a long reading list Turn the articles you saved for later into something you can listen to. == Your license == Readhum needs a license key, bought at readhum.com. It’s a one-time purchase, not a subscription: it includes 12 months of new features, and Readhum keeps working after that. Renew once a year only if you want the newest features; bug and security fixes are always free. One license works in up to 3 browsers. If Readhum isn’t right for you, ask for a full refund within 14 days. == Privacy == The text you listen to goes only to the voice you pick, never to us. Your settings, API keys and Reader library stay in your browser. No ads and no analytics trackers. When you enter a license key, Readhum checks it with our license server about once a day; nothing about what you read is sent.
