Speed-read selected text word by word, with anchor alignment for English and Hebrew.

ReadFaster turns any text you select in your browser into a focused, word-by-word reading session. Instead of moving your eyes across a line, ReadFaster holds one word still on screen and flashes the next one in its place. Your eyes stop travelling, and the words come to you. This technique is called RSVP (rapid serial visual presentation), and with a little practice most people read comfortably at 400–600 words per minute. HOW TO USE 1. Select any text on any web page. 2. Press Alt+R, or click the ReadFaster icon in your toolbar, or right-click the selection and choose "Read faster". 3. Press Play, or hit the space bar. The selected text loads automatically. You can also paste or type text straight into the box if you would rather not select it on a page. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT Anchor alignment that is actually aligned. Every word is positioned so its optimal recognition point — the second readable letter — sits exactly on the red guide line. ReadFaster measures the letter as your browser draws it and shifts the word by the precise number of pixels required, rather than estimating from character counts. Words stay locked to the guide instead of jittering left and right, so your eyes never have to search for where the next word begins. Real Hebrew and mixed-language support. Hebrew is not an afterthought here. Each word is detected as right-to-left or left-to-right on its own and rendered in its correct direction, so an English sentence with Hebrew inside it reads properly in both. Words are split into full grapheme clusters, which means niqqud and combining marks stay attached to the letters they belong to instead of flashing past as separate characters. CONTROLS - Play, Pause and Restart, plus the space bar to toggle playback - Speed slider from 100 to 1000 words per minute - Live stats: current words per minute, your position in the text, and the time left - Progress bar across the whole passage - Light and dark themes - Your speed, theme and last text are remembered for next time PRIVACY ReadFaster does not collect anything. There are no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no servers — the extension makes no network requests at all. Your text is processed entirely inside your own browser, and your speed, theme and last-read text are stored locally on your device using Chrome's own storage. ReadFaster only reads the page you are on at the moment you ask it to, using Chrome's activeTab permission. It has no standing access to your browsing, it cannot read pages in the background, and it does not run on any site until you explicitly invoke it from the toolbar, the keyboard shortcut or the right-click menu. NOTES Chrome does not allow extensions to run on certain pages, including chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store and the built-in PDF viewer. Selection capture will not work there — you can still paste text into ReadFaster directly. If Alt+R does nothing, another extension has probably claimed that shortcut. You can reassign it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
