ReadEase — Reading & Accessibility

Overview
Make any webpage easier to read: typography, color, Bionic Reading, Read Aloud, Reader Mode, Highlights, Dictionary & Translate.
ReadEase is a free Chrome extension that makes any website easier to read — without changing what the page says, only how comfortable it is to read it. Install it once, click the toolbar icon on any site, and adjust reading tools, typography, spacing, color, and highlights until the page works for your eyes and your brain. Every change applies instantly, on the page you're already looking at, with no account and no sign-up. WHY READEASE Most reading tools force you to pick one fix: a font-size bookmarklet, a dark-mode extension, or a dyslexia font add-on. ReadEase brings all of it together in one toolbar popup, tuned specifically for readers who find long or dense text tiring — whether that's due to dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, light sensitivity, or just a long day of screens. KEY FEATURES 📰 Reader Mode Strips ads, navigation, and sidebars with one click, leaving just the article — with all your other ReadEase settings already applied to it. 📖 Bionic Reading Bolds the leading letters of every word in real time, creating fixation points your eyes can anchor to. Your brain fills in the rest of each word from memory, which can reduce fixation time and help you skim dense text with less effort. 🔊 Read Aloud (Text-to-Speech) Have any page read back to you using your device's own speech voices. Read your current selection, or the whole page if nothing is selected. Choose any installed voice and set playback speed from 0.75x to 2x — useful for proofreading, multitasking, or simply resting your eyes. ⏩ Speed Read (RSVP) Flashes text one word at a time at a pace you set, from 100 to 1000 words per minute, so your eyes never have to scan the line — just keep up with the word in front of you. 📏 Reading Ruler Highlights the line you're currently reading and dims the rest of the page, so long paragraphs stop swimming and your place is always obvious. Adjust the band's thickness, color, and dimming strength. 📚 Dictionary (Define on Select) Double-click or select any single word to see its definition, part of speech, and pronunciation right on the page — no new tab, no searching. Add your own free Gemini API key for definitions the built-in dictionary doesn't have. 🔤 Custom Fonts & Font Size Switch between 12 font styles, including OpenDyslexic — a typeface designed specifically for readers with dyslexia — plus familiar options like Arial, Georgia, Verdana, and Times New Roman. Scale text size across a 12-step range, from 33% up to 200%, independent of the page's own styling. ↔️ Line Height & Letter Spacing Loosen up cramped paragraphs with line height from 1x to 3x and letter spacing from -1px to +3px. Force left, center, right, or justified alignment on any page that fights you on layout. 🎨 Color Filter & Themes Fine-tune five independent sliders — brightness, contrast, grayscale, sepia, and warmth — to cut glare, reduce blue light, or boost contrast for low-vision reading. A one-click invert mode instantly lightens dark, glaring pages. 🖍️ Highlight & Annotate Select any text on a page and a small colour picker pops up so you can mark it in yellow, green, blue, or pink. Highlights are saved per page and reappear automatically the next time you visit. Prefer to select text without the picker popping up? A single switch in the Color tab turns the on-selection tooltip off without losing your saved highlights. ⚡ Works Everywhere, Instantly Your settings are saved once and apply automatically on every site you visit — no re-configuring per page, no reload required. Turn ReadEase fully on or off with a single switch in the toolbar. WHO IT'S FOR • Readers with dyslexia — OpenDyslexic, wider letter spacing, and Bionic Reading reduce letter-swapping and reading fatigue. • Low vision & light sensitivity — higher contrast, inverted colors, and text scaling up to 200% without breaking a page's layout. • ADHD & attention differences — Bionic Reading, the Reading Ruler, and generous line height give your eyes a clearer path through long paragraphs. • Students & researchers — have dense articles and papers read aloud or speed-read, look up unfamiliar terms without leaving the page, and highlight key passages to revisit later. • ESL and second-language readers — slow down Read Aloud to hear correct pronunciation, and use Define on Select to check unfamiliar words while following along visually. • Anyone with tired eyes at the end of a long day — warm color filters and softened contrast make evening reading easier. PRIVACY, BUILT IN ReadEase does not collect your browsing history, page content, or personal information, and it doesn't sell data to anyone. Your reading preferences are stored using Chrome's own built-in storage and, if you're signed into Chrome, sync across your devices the same way your bookmarks do — under Google's sync policies, not ours. Read Aloud runs entirely on your device using your browser's speech engine, and Define on Select uses a free dictionary API (with your own optional Gemini key as a fallback). Full details are in our Privacy Policy. GETTING STARTED 1. Click "Add to Chrome" and pin ReadEase to your toolbar. 2. Open any webpage and click the ReadEase icon. 3.
