)Overview
Reads any page aloud and highlights every word as it is spoken. Natural AI voices for web pages, PDF, Docs and Word.
Readalix is a text to speech (TTS) reader for Chrome. It reads web pages aloud with natural AI voices, and highlights every word as it is spoken. Select any text and press play. The sentence gets a soft tint, and each word lights up in time with the voice — so your eyes always know where the voice is. It works on normal web pages, PDFs, Google Docs, Word Online, PowerPoint Online, Google Slides, form fields, and text inside iframes. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Read aloud any text you select, on any page. • Read a whole PDF in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. The word is highlighted by the viewer itself, so it stays exact at any zoom. Scanned PDFs work too. • Read Google Docs, Word Online, PowerPoint Online and Google Slides. • Point at an element and read from there to the end of the page. • Right-click to get "Read selection", "Read this input" or "Read from here". • Pause on the exact word, then resume from that same word — not a sentence earlier. • Change the voice or the speed while it is still speaking. • Let the page scroll along with the voice, and jump back with one click. • Use your own keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+R by default). • Pick your own highlight colors, or choose one of 12 ready-made color sets. VOICES • Browser — every voice already installed on your computer. Nothing to set up. • Piper — over 100 natural voices in more than 30 languages. Each voice is a small download, then it runs on your own device. • Kokoro — 28 premium English voices with exact per-word timing. • Microsoft — 322 neural voices across 142 locales. No key and no download needed. • Gemini and OpenAI — expressive cloud voices. You paste your own API key. Every voice in the list has a play button, so you can hear a sample before you choose it. WHO IT IS FOR • Dyslexia and focus — watching each word light up as it is spoken helps you hold your place on the page. • Language learners — hear how words are really pronounced in more than 30 languages, and slow the voice right down until it is clear. • Long articles and tired eyes — listen to articles, PDFs and documents like a podcast, at up to 3x speed. • Writers and proofreaders — your own draft sounds different when it is read back to you. Clumsy sentences and repeated words jump out. • Anyone who would rather listen than read. PRIVACY Piper and Kokoro voices are created on your own machine, so the text never leaves your browser. If you pick a cloud voice (Microsoft, Gemini or OpenAI), only the sentence being read is sent to that provider, so it can be spoken. Your Gemini and OpenAI API keys are kept on your device only — never synced, and never sent to us. Spoken audio is cached on your device so a re-read plays instantly, and one click clears it. PRICE Browser voices are always free, with no limits. All the other voices come with a free allowance of 20,000 characters a day — roughly 14 pages, or about 22 minutes of speech, every day. When the allowance runs out, reading simply continues with a browser voice. To remove the daily limit: $5 per year, or $15 once. The interface is available in 52 languages.
