No account and no analytics. 💡 GOOD TO KNOW ∙ Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store and the New Tab page can't be spoken ∙ Words inside images are skipped ∙ Sound quality depends on the voice; word highlighting needs a voice that reports each word ∙ The main article is found automatically – select a passage for exact control ∙ Leaving or reloading the page stops playback; after a reload you can continue ❓ FAQ How is this different from apps that read text aloud? Nothing to install outside Chrome and no copying between windows: the page you are on is spoken in place. Do I need software to read text aloud on a laptop? No. Chrome on a computer is enough; Windows, macOS and ChromeOS usually have speech built in. Can it read for me while I do something else? Yes. Start it and look away – it keeps going until the end or until you pause it. Does it do read aloud text to speech in other languages? Yes, when your system or Chrome has a voice for that language. Is there a text reader for my own notes? Yes, the paste tab: paste anything you copied and press play. Can I use it as an app to read text aloud online? Yes, on news sites, blogs and wikis – most pages with plain paragraphs work. Do I still need websites that read text aloud? Not for the open page: it is spoken directly, without copy and paste.
