Overview

Puts unused tabs to sleep, and frees memory automatically when AI tools, builds or simulators run your computer low.

RAM Pilot keeps Chrome light without getting in your way. It puts tabs you aren't using to sleep. They stay in your tab bar and come back with one click. And when your whole computer runs low on memory, because AI coding tools, builds, Docker or a phone simulator are eating your RAM, it switches to AI coding mode by itself and keeps awake only what you need. When memory recovers, it goes back to your normal mode. Four modes • Off: leaves every tab alone. • Balanced (default): tabs you haven't used for 30 minutes sleep, and a collapsed tab group sleeps right away. • Saver: tabs sleep after 5 minutes unused. • AI coding: everything sleeps except the tab you're on, pinned tabs, localhost previews and AI chats (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini). Switch with one click in the toolbar, or press Alt+Shift+A to turn AI coding on and off. Automatic when memory is low Every 30 seconds RAM Pilot checks how much memory your computer has free. If it stays below 15% for a minute, it switches to AI coding mode. Once memory is back above 25%, it returns to your mode. If you pick a mode yourself, your choice always wins. It never takes away what you're using RAM Pilot never puts these to sleep: • the tab you're on, and the other half of a split view • tabs playing sound or that played sound in the last 5 minutes, and video calls (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, Whereby, Telemost) • pinned tabs and any site you mark "Keep awake" • a tab you left less than 2 minutes ago • with "Protect what I type" on: any tab holding text you've typed and haven't sent A sleeping tab loses text you typed and didn't send (Chrome doesn't restore it), so turning on Protect what I type is recommended. See what it saves The toolbar popup shows your free memory on a gauge, how many tabs are asleep, and roughly how much memory was freed today. Private by design • No account, no analytics, no ads, and no network requests at all. • It reads tab addresses only to decide which tabs to keep awake. Chrome describes this as "Read your browsing history". Nothing leaves your computer. • It cannot read your pages. Only if you turn on Protect what I type does a small script notice whether a text box you edited is empty, never what you wrote. Everything is adjustable in Settings: idle times, the memory levels, and your own lists of sites.
