Know when the email you send from Gmail is opened. How many times, when, and from which country and network. And see which of the emails you receive are tracking you. Railgun Pixel does two things, in both directions of your inbox. KNOW WHEN YOUR OWN MAIL IS READ Click "Track with Railgun" beside Gmail's Send button and Railgun tells you when that message is opened. - A read receipt on the message itself, in your Sent folder - Every open with its time, mail client, device, and the country and network it was read from - Click tracking on the links in a tracked message - Forward detection: a new reader in a different mail client or country - A Railgun badge in Gmail's top bar with your latest receipts, one click away - The full history in your Railgun account at railgun.chat Tracking is off until you switch it on, message by message. If you would rather new messages start tracked, there is a setting for that, and the toggle beside Send still decides for every message. Either way, a tracked message carries a short visible line saying it was sent with Railgun Pixel, so the recipient is told. SEE WHO IS TRACKING YOU Open any email in Gmail and Railgun puts a small badge above the message: 3 trackers in this email Click it for the list: the company doing the tracking, what kind of beacon it is, and the exact domain it reports to. It sees through Google's image proxy to identify the company actually behind each beacon, rather than stopping at a googleusercontent.com URL, which is where most tools in this category stop. It finds: - Invisible 1x1 tracking pixels - Images hidden with CSS so you never see them - Beacons pointing at known tracking and marketing-automation services - Images carrying campaign tracking parameters This half runs entirely inside your browser and needs no account. WHAT A READ RECEIPT CAN AND CANNOT TELL YOU Every product in this category oversells this. We would rather you knew: - It cannot tell you WHO opened a message. Gmail sends one body to every recipient, so there is one beacon for all of them. - It cannot see opens in clients that block remote images. No open is recorded, and a message that was read looks unread. - Location is a country and a network, never a street. It comes from the address the image was fetched from. A VPN puts it at the exit; a reader in Gmail shows as Google's proxy, not as themselves. Railgun labels both instead of guessing. - Gmail fetches images the moment you press Send, and again whenever you look at the message in your own Sent folder. Apple Mail downloads them for every message whether or not it is ever read. Railgun recognises all three and counts none of them as an open. A read receipt is a useful signal. It is not proof, and we will not describe it as one. PRIVACY, PRECISELY Mail you RECEIVE: nothing leaves your browser. Ever. No message content, no sender, no scan result. Detection is local, and there is nothing to send. Mail you SEND: only the messages you explicitly choose to track are registered with Railgun. Their subject, recipients and links, so that opens and clicks can be attributed to the right message. Nothing else, and nothing at all about the messages you did not track. Subjects and recipients are encrypted at rest. No ads. No data brokers. Nothing sold, nothing shared. Delete any tracked message's record, or disconnect the browser entirely, whenever you like. WE ARE ON OUR OWN DENYLIST Railgun makes both the shield and the sword. So, plainly: our own tracking domain is on the list this extension uses.
