Rabbit Ad Blocker removes ads, pop-ups and trackers from the pages you visit, including ads that play before a video. Filtering runs on your device. There is no account, no sign-in and no server involved. The extension makes no outbound requests of its own. WHY VIDEO ADS ARE DIFFERENT On many video sites, an ad and the video you asked for are delivered from the same host, over the same connection. Blocking that host blocks the video as well. Rabbit removes the ad from the player's own data before the player reads it. Because the ad is never scheduled, there is nothing to skip. HOW IT BLOCKS 1. Requests. 29,000 filter rules compiled from EasyList, EasyPrivacy and Peter Lowe's list stop ad and tracker requests. Chrome matches these itself, from a rule file stored locally. 2. Layout. Nearly 24,000 hiding rules, including rules for 7,700 sites specifically, are applied before the page is drawn, so blocked ads do not leave empty gaps or shift the page while you read. 3. Video. Ad entries are removed from the player's data ahead of playback, as described above. 4. Pop-unders. Windows that open without a click, second windows from a single click and click-hijacking links are blocked. A sign-in window you asked for opens normally. 5. Anti-adblock recovery. Some sites respond to a blocker by freezing scrolling, covering the page or pausing playback. Rabbit reverses those changes so the page stays usable. PRIVACY Rabbit does not use the webRequest permission, so it does not see the individual requests a page makes. Chrome performs that matching on its own against the local rule file. Rabbit does read the hostname of the site you are on, because per-site rules and the per-site pause are keyed to it. Nothing is recorded and nothing is transmitted. There is no analytics, no remote configuration and no account. Settings and counters are stored in your browser and stay there. WHAT IT BLOCKED Click the Rabbit icon in your toolbar to see counts for the current tab: 1. Requests blocked 2. Ad slots hidden 3. Pop-ups stopped 4. Video ads removed A running total since installation is shown as well. CONTROLS Pause Rabbit on the site you are on with one click, and it is remembered the next time you visit. A single switch turns blocking off everywhere. HOW THE RULES WORK Rabbit's code contains no hostnames. Blocking is driven entirely by filter lists and by general patterns, such as an API a page calls or the way a window is opened, so sites that no rule was written for are still covered.
