Overview

Calms Google Maps: hides the clutter, and lights the map and panels by the sun over the place you are looking at.

Quiet Maps makes Google Maps calmer. It hides what you did not ask for, shows each place as one simple card, and lights the whole page by the sun over the place you are looking at. What it does - Lights the map by the sun. The extension calculates where the sun is over the middle of the map based on the date and time on your computer. Berlin at noon is bright. At the same moment, Tokyo is night. The map has four lights (day, golden hour, dusk, and night), and the panels turn to frosted glass that follows the same light. - Adds a small bar at the bottom of the map, the Sun Rail. Drag its handle to see the same place at a different time of day. - Makes shops, museums, and other points of interest grey, so street names read first. The selected pin and the route keep one accent color. - Hides sponsored results: the ad rows in the results list and the sponsored pins that a search puts on the map. - Replaces the busy place panel with one card: the name on the photo, the rating, whether the place is open, then four tiles (Directions, Website, Save, More). The reviews follow, each as a quote with the reviewer's first name. The photo and the name stay above the tabs when you open Tickets or Reviews. - Hides the category chips, the Get app prompt, the Explore nearby block under a route, the + and - zoom buttons, and the extra buttons in the results list. - Fades the top photo through the place's other photos. - Slides the sidebar out of the way until you move the pointer to the left edge, and lets the panels float over the map. - Opens the next reviews when you scroll past the end of the card. Every part has its own switch, and the light can be fixed to day, golden hour, dusk or night. Click the toolbar icon. A change takes effect at once, with no reload. Privacy Quiet Maps runs only on Google Maps pages. It collects no data and has no server. The fonts are bundled and the sun is computed on your computer, so the lights make no requests. Your settings are stored with Chrome sync. Quiet Maps is an unofficial extension. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Google. Google Maps is a trademark of Google LLC. Maps changes often. If a part stops working, that part shows Google's own version again and the rest keeps working.
