Overview

Instantly hide the current tab(s) and switch to a safe tab, without closing anything.

QuickSwitch is a browser extension that lets you instantly switch away from your current tab to a designated "safe" tab with a single hotkey or button click, while keeping whatever you were doing running safely in the background. Instead of closing tabs, it moves them into a separate, minimized browser window that stays open and active — so if you were mid-game, watching a video, or in the middle of anything else, none of your progress is lost. It simply gets tucked out of view while your safe tab takes over the screen. To use it, first go to the tab you want to act as your cover (a document, an assignment page, anything neutral), click the extension icon, and select Set current tab as Safe Tab — this only needs to be done once, or again if you want to change it later. After that, whenever you need to switch instantly, either click the extension icon and choose Hide current tab now, or just press Alt+Shift+H, and your current tab will disappear into the background while your safe tab takes its place. Press Alt+Shift+R anytime to bring the hidden tab back exactly where you left off. You can customize both hotkeys anytime at chrome://extensions/shortcuts
