Rephrase any text, instantly, without sending it anywhere. Quick Rewrite is a private, on-device AI rewriter for Chrome. Click the toolbar icon or press a shortcut while your cursor is in any text field, or right-click on selected text, and the extension rephrases it. Review the result, click Insert, and your original text is replaced. Don't like it? Hit Retry. It runs entirely on your computer using Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model. Nothing you write ever leaves your browser. WHY INSTALL QUICK REWRITE - Truly private. Your text never goes to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or any server we run. There is no server. The model runs on your device. - No API key, no subscription, no account. Install and use it. Forever. - No tracking, no analytics, no telemetry. The extension only requests two permissions: storage (to save your actions and settings) and contextMenus (for the right-click option). - Works offline. After the one-time model download, you can rephrase on a plane. - Fast. Output streams chunk by chunk as it is generated, so there is no spinner and no waiting for a full round trip. - Always in control. The popup shows the rewrite first; your text only changes if you click Insert. Works with <input>, <textarea>, and contenteditable elements, so it handles everything from Gmail and LinkedIn to comment boxes, GitHub issues, search bars, CMS editors, and rich-text fields across the web. It also picks up text from shadow DOM widgets, read-only page text, and fields you have already clicked away from. ACTIONS Pick an action from the popup: Rephrase, Fix grammar & spelling, Improve writing, Make professional, Make shorter, Summarize. Or write your own action with your own prompt, and it is saved for next time. CUSTOMIZE IT - Create, edit, and delete your own actions (more formal, more casual, shorter, a specific tone, anything you want). - Export, import, or reset your actions from the settings menu. - Switch the interface language at runtime. - Re-record the keyboard shortcut without leaving Chrome. Localized into 50 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. REQUIREMENTS Quick Rewrite uses Chrome's built-in Prompt API, which has a few prerequisites: - Chrome 138 or newer on Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus (ChromeOS 16389+). Not supported on Android, iOS, or regular ChromeOS. - Hardware: GPU with more than 4 GB VRAM, or CPU with 16 GB+ RAM and 4+ cores. - Storage: about 22 GB of free disk space on your Chrome profile volume for the one-time Gemini Nano download. - Network: an unmetered connection for the initial model download. Fully offline after that. If the model is not downloaded yet, the extension starts the download in the background and shows a live progress bar. You can close the popup; the download keeps going.
