Quartz Moments
Overview
Pause on your terms with a brief, configurable moment card before Quartz Discover.
Take a few seconds before you decide what to open. Quartz Moments gives you configurable, card-first browser moments and a Quartz headlines feed in Chrome’s side panel. A MOMENT WITH A CHOICE When a moment is due, its card appears first. The default countdown is five seconds. Select the card to open the Quartz Moments Discover feed right away, press Cancel or Esc to dismiss, or choose Snooze 1 hour. When the countdown ends, the feed at moments.qz.com/discover/ opens or reuses only a matching Quartz Moments Discover tab; other sites are not replaced. This companion-hosted, server-rendered feed requests stories from Quartz. Selecting a headline opens the publisher separately. You can change the countdown, cadence and triggers, set quiet hours, or pause automatic moments in settings. SET YOUR RHYTHM Chrome start, idle return, unlock and wake-from-sleep triggers begin enabled in setup. Six schedule windows are available but start off. The default daily limit is six moments. Manual moments from the side panel also begin with a card and countdown. WHERE MOMENTS APPEAR Quartz access is required for Quartz content and the feed. You can separately grant optional site access to show a due moment on an eligible page. Without that grant, or on a page Chrome protects, the card opens in a temporary Quartz Moments tab instead. Overlay code is injected only when a moment is due, not on ordinary page navigation. Quartz Moments does not replace your default search engine, homepage or New Tab page. HEADLINES IN THE SIDE PANEL Open the side panel for Quartz headlines. The moment card shows Quartz sections and a short teaser; it is not a story list or personalized digest. Optional on-device interest learning separately orders the side-panel feed using signals from an allowlist of publisher sites. Setup starts with learning enabled; it is a separate setting that can be switched off or cleared. It uses page-reading and reading-progress scripts only on eligible listed publishers when enabled and permitted. Extracted article text is reduced locally and discarded. Optional Chrome history access can seed interests once from recent publisher visits; it is off unless you choose it and grant Chrome permission. OPTIONAL EXTRAS No extension account is needed. A Quartz headlines bookmark is optional and off unless you turn it on; Chrome asks for bookmark access and the setting can remove the bookmark when switched off. Usage analytics are separate from on-device learning. Mixpanel events are sent only after an installation-local agreement and while the local analytics preference is on. You can finish setup with analytics off or explicitly turn sharing on later in Settings; turning it off stops future events but does not delete data already received. The control says “Share anonymous usage data to help improve Quartz Moments,” but events use a stable random installation ID and ordinary network metadata, including IP address, so they are not fully anonymous. See the Privacy Policy for the full boundaries and choices.
