QR Unwrap - On-Screen QR Code Reader
Overview
Read QR codes already visible on your computer screen. Right-click a webpage image or select a visible area; decoding stays local.
Read QR codes already visible on your computer screen. QR Unwrap is a focused Chrome extension for reading QR codes that are already visible on your computer. Use it when a code appears in a webpage image, PDF, paused video, email, presentation, or browser app and you would rather not reach for your phone or upload a screenshot. THREE WAYS TO START • Right-click a webpage image, open “QR Unwrap,” and choose “Decode This Image.” • Click the toolbar icon and choose “Select an area” for a code that is part of a PDF, paused video, canvas, presentation, or complex page. • Choose “Open image decoder” to add a local PNG, JPG, or WebP image. WHAT YOU SEE AFTER A SUCCESSFUL READ • The complete decoded URL or text. • A readable hostname for web links. • Copy and, for supported web links, Open in New Tab. • Local warnings for unusual protocols or suspicious-looking URL patterns. Nothing opens automatically. You decide whether to copy the result or visit a supported web destination. LOCAL BY DESIGN • Decoding runs locally in your browser. • Page captures, local files, and clipboard images are not uploaded for decoding. • Decoded content is not sent to a server. • No account is required. • Feedback is sent only when you choose Send feedback and submit the website form. BUILT FOR ONE DESKTOP JOB QR Unwrap reads QR codes already visible on your computer screen. It does not add ads, short links, cloud scan history, camera scanning, or QR-generation features. COMMON USE CASES • QR codes in webpage images • QR codes in PDF documents • QR codes inside email messages • QR codes shown in paused videos • QR codes rendered in canvas-based apps • QR codes inside presentations and screenshots LIMITS AND TROUBLESHOOTING Chrome restricts extensions on some internal and protected pages. On those pages, “Select an area” stays in the toolbar menu with an explanation. Choose “Open image decoder” if you want to provide a local image instead. Very small, blurred, cropped, low-contrast, heavily stylized, or partially hidden QR codes may not decode on the first try. Zoom in, select a tighter area while keeping the full code visible, or use a sharper local image. QR Unwrap does not assign a keyboard shortcut by default. You can assign one from the toolbar menu if desired.
