Overview

Exam papers into practice tests, flashcards, worksheets and Anki study decks. MCQ answer keys detected. Free, private, offline.

Turn an exam paper into a quiz, a worksheet, or a set of flashcards — in about a minute. Drop in a PDF, DOCX or TXT. QExtract finds the questions, the answer options and the answer key, shows you everything so you can correct anything before you use it, then exports a practice test, a printable worksheet, a Google Form, or an Anki or Quizlet deck. Your papers are read inside your browser, on your own computer, and are never uploaded. There is no account to create, and it keeps working with the internet disconnected. Built for teachers, tutors, students and parents who already have the material and just need it in a usable form. WHAT IT DOES - Extract questions from source material Detect item text, options, answer keys, common numbering styles, scanned labels, multi-column layouts, and mixed formats. Handles US-style answer choices (A B C D, and the F G H J K sets used by many state tests) as well as board-exam papers with sections and per-question marks. - Review before using Preview every extracted item, edit text, adjust options, set correct answers, remove low-quality results, and attach or remove question images. Anything the parser was unsure about is flagged with the reason it was unsure, and you can narrow a large set down to just those, or to items that closely repeat another one. Select several at once to remove them together, with an undo if you change your mind. - Build a new practice paper Assemble a fresh paper from what you have extracted, following the structure of the original — sections, marks per question, and question counts. Choose full, half or quarter length, and create up to four versions of the same paper with the questions and answer choices shuffled and the answer key kept correct for each version. - Run practice sessions Launch an interactive player directly from the reviewed set, with maths rendered properly rather than flattened into text. - Study over time Practise a set across days instead of once. Questions you find hard come back sooner, ones you know move further away, and your progress is remembered between sessions. It stays on your computer and can be cleared at any time. - Evaluate responses locally Upload an answer key and a student response file to score objective answers and review descriptive answers in the browser. - Create teaching material Generate printable worksheets, answer sheets, flashcards, and downloadable classroom packages from reviewed content. - Share with classroom workflows Prepare reviewed content for forms, learning platforms, study decks, offline worksheets, and archive bundles. - Keep files private Parsing and generation run locally in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded, and the extension requests no standing access to any website. WHAT IT READS Open a question paper saved as a PDF, as a Word document, or as plain text. Scanned papers are read using on-device OCR. You can also bring in a question set you exported from another tool, import from a web page you have open, and upload several files at once so they merge into a single bank. WHAT IT MAKES - An interactive quiz you can sit - Printable worksheets and bubble answer sheets - A new practice paper in up to four versions, each answer key rebuilt to match - Google Forms - Flashcard decks for the study apps students already use - Standard question-bank files for learning platforms such as Moodle and Canvas - A portable copy of your own question bank, to reopen later - A study mode that brings back what you got wrong sooner IT READS REAL EXAM PAPERS, NOT JUST TIDY ONES A question paper's meaning lives in its layout. Numbering restarts at every section. Options are labelled a dozen different ways. Fractions are drawn as vector strokes with no characters behind them. "Attempt either 21A or 21B" is two questions, not one. More than a hundred exam paper layouts are tested before every release. Those include board papers that declare sections and marks, papers that offer a choice between two questions in the same slot, papers whose numbering restarts with a section prefix, answer choices labelled by several different conventions, assertion-and-reason items, case studies built around a shared passage, and statement lists written inside a single question. Fractions and square roots are rebuilt from the shapes drawn on the page when there are no characters there to read. NO AI GUESSING QExtract parses deterministically rather than running your paper through a language model. The same document always gives the same result, and nothing is sent to an AI service. Where it cannot find something, it flags the question for review with the reason instead of inventing an answer. Accuracy is measured against real exam papers before every release and published rather than claimed: across the tested papers, 99.9% of extracted content is traceable back to text that is actually in the source document. WHAT IS NEW IN v2.3 - Free, with a free license key after 14 days. QExtract runs for 14 days from installation. After that it asks for a license key, which is free on our website: no payment and no account. The key is checked on your device; QExtract never contacts the website to check it. A banner shows the days left and links straight to the key page. - Use it as an app on a phone or tablet. The same QExtract also runs as an installable web app at shubix.netlify.app/qextract/app/, for people who do not use Chrome extensions. It works offline after the first visit. - Open from Downloads. Most papers were just downloaded: the file picker can now open straight in your Downloads folder. - See where a printed question went missing. If the paper prints a question that could not be read cleanly, a note says so where it belongs, and can show you the spot on the page. - See where each question was read from. A Source button opens the page with the question outlined, drawn from your own file. - Answer choices that disagree with the page are flagged for review, with the labels named. - Maths, Word documents, multi-column papers and figures read better. Superscripts, symbol characters and fractions drawn by Word come through as maths. Word's automatic numbering, tables, text boxes and tracked changes are read as Word shows them. Two-column papers are read a column at a time, and figures reach their questions. - Smaller fixes, many of them: minus signs survive, page headers and footers no longer leak into questions, and stray marks from a neighbouring line no longer end an answer choice. GOOD FOR - Teachers creating practice tests from old papers - Schools and districts that cannot send assessment material to an outside service - Students turning study material into self-check practice - Tutors preparing worksheets and revision material - Parents generating school practice material - Anyone who wants a private, browser-based study workflow ACCESSIBILITY Every screen is built to WCAG 2.2 AA and checked automatically before each release, including the standalone quiz player a student sits in front of. Keyboard operation throughout, a dyslexia-friendly font option, and light and dark themes. PERMISSIONS, AND WHY - identity — used only when you choose "Push to Google Forms", to sign you in and send the questions you picked to Google so it can create that form in your own account. The token is not stored. - storage — keeps your question banks, corrections and study progress on your device. - activeTab and scripting — read the page you are looking at, only when you deliberately import questions from it. - contextMenus and sidePanel — the right-click entry and the side panel. - Zero host permissions — the class that would let an extension read or send page content on its own. QExtract declares none, which is what makes "your files are never uploaded" checkable rather than merely promised. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - It will not invent an answer key. Most question papers print none, and those questions still work as a quiz, a worksheet and a bank — the card says no answer was found rather than showing a guess. - OCR is English-only. A scan in another script returns unusable text. - The interface is English only, even though the parser reads papers in many scripts. - Scans and badly encoded PDFs need more correcting than clean typed files. - Match-the-following tables with coded options can still split into several questions. - It is not an answer engine. It extracts and organises questions; it does not solve them and gives no academic advice. NOTES Extraction quality depends on the source document. Clean typed files usually work best. Scanned files can require extra review. Handwriting and papers whose text is stored incorrectly inside the PDF remain difficult. QExtract is designed to speed up preparation, not remove the final review step. Free, with no paywall and no subscription. After a 14-day trial QExtract asks for a license key, which is free on our website: no payment, no account, and the key is checked on your device. Start with source material, review the extracted items, and build a usable practice set or worksheet in minutes.
