Qatar Scam Shield — درع قطر Scam text messages and WhatsApp messages impersonating Qatari government services, Qatar Post, banks, and telecom operators are a persistent problem: a link promising to "renew your health card," "release a customs parcel," or "verify your account" that actually leads to a cloned website designed to steal your Qatari ID (QID) number, card details, or account password. Qatar Scam Shield is a free, privacy-first Chrome extension that watches for exactly this pattern and stops you before you interact with a page like this — entirely on your own device, with no account, no tracking, and no data collection. HOW IT PROTECTS YOU Qatar Scam Shield checks every site you visit using three layers of detection: 1. Known-scam blocklist — sites already reported and confirmed as scams are intercepted and redirected to a local warning before the page can render. 2. Lookalike-domain analysis — the extension inspects the address itself for disguised international characters (punycode/homoglyphs), Qatari government or brand names embedded in an unofficial domain, and addresses that are a near-miss (typosquat) of a real official domain. 3. On-page content analysis — for anything that slips past the first two layers, the extension scores the page's own Arabic and English content and form fields for scam patterns, and shows a full-page warning if the score is high enough. When a page is flagged, you'll see a clear bilingual (Arabic/English) warning explaining why, a link to the real official site where one is known, and the choice to go back to safety or proceed anyway if you're confident it's a false positive. ALSO INCLUDED - A popup that shows the current site's verdict at a glance, with a protection on/off toggle and simple stats. - An options page to tune which detection layers are active, manage your per-site bypasses, and add your own custom blocked or allowed domains. - One-click reporting of a new scam site by email. PRIVACY Qatar Scam Shield has no backend and no telemetry. All detection runs locally in your browser. The only network request it ever makes is a periodic download of a public list of known scam domains — a plain JSON file fetch that contains no information about you.
